I just purchased a built-yourself R4000 and after a month, I started having problems shutting down the laptop. It literally takes at least 5 minutes just to log off. I tried everything; reformating, system restore, defragmentation, msconfig to uncheck all the startups, etc. I thought that by reformating, the computer, everything will go back to normal, yet it didn't. I don't think it's the hardware problem because the laptop works perfectly fine when I use it. The only problem is that it takes forever to shut down. I don't have a lot of programs running either. Would you guys know what the problem is and if there is a solution at all?

Sounds like Windows is clearing the Page File on shutdown.
That really increases the shut down time....here is how to disable that!: :p

Start Registry Editor and navigate to the following key:

    [HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management]

    Set ClearPageFileAtShutdown value to 0

Or, using Group Policy Editor [for Windows XP Professional]

Click Start, Run and type Secpol.msc
Click Local Policies | Security Options
In the right-pane, set Shutdown: Clear virtual memory pagefile to Disabled

Be extremely careful in the registry, one change could mess up your entire computer. If you do not feel comftorable doing this, let me know and I will suggest something else. ;)

Are you trying to shut down right after you've been using the internet? I've been hearing that a bug in Win XP in the zv6000's/R4000's (including mine) have been leading to locks up the computer in shutting down after just being on the internet. Try waiting 20-30 minutes after using the internet before shutting down.

Hey ChazMan421, I couldn't find the ClearPageFileAtShutdown that you were talking about. Can you show me the other way then?

To xAMDvsIntelx: I think there might be a bug for the Windows XP. My internet connection is on all the time. If I was to wait for 30 min, then there wouldn't be like a point. Because I want to have my pc shut down as quick as possible (like how it's suppose to be).

Well, I suggest downloading a program called TuneXP 1.5.

You can disable windows from deleting the pagefile on shutdown from in there - really easy to use program!!

You can get it at www.majorgeeks.com ;)
