Hello,
I bought a HDX 18 here in the UK, it came specced with 2 x 250GB HDD's...
I'd have liked to run them in a RAID 0 config but not sure if I can? I know that in the US you were given the option of RAID HDD's?
Any idea?
Thanks in advance!

Hi and welcome to the forums!
I don't believe the HDX18 has a RAID controller. If it does, RAID settings are usually found in the BIOS - I would check with that first. -
I just purchased a HDX 18 in Canada. The HP website offers the HDX 18 with the option of several RAID configurations straight from the factory all the way up to 1TB
Quote - (1TB 5400RPM SATA Dual Hard Drive (500GB x 2) with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection)
So, if I buy a 2nd drive caddy with cables, I should be able to just pop in a matching drive and go RAID, right?
I don't see any bios settings or options for it. Anyone have answers?
(I tried to look in the HDX18 Owners Lounge, but 425+ pages is impossible to find anything useful) -
RAID is not doable on any HDX18. It has the ACHI chipset not the RAID chipset.

Two hard drives dont mean you can do a raid. My dv7 can have two hard drives but it dosent have a raid controller. Isnt raid 0 when you add up the size of both hard drives anyways?

"RAID 0" is when you have two hard drives and together they operate as single unit. You get twice the speed and twice the space.
"RAID 1" is when you have two hard drives and they mirror each other. So, what is written to one, is simultaenously written to the other for an instant back up.
And it looks like Bad Wolf is correct. I contacted HP support and asked if the 1-terrabyte (2x 500gb) option operates as a single drive... or as two separate ones. They say two separate drives... too bad...
RAID 0 on my new HDX18?
