I've got a dv2215us that came with 1gig of ram. I upgraded to 2gigs using 2 Patriot PC2-5300 DDR2 1gig sticks. 10-15 minutes after a fresh reboot, everything locks up and the screen freezes. It did this about 3-4 times, both while in use and just idling. I checked and the increased ram was show/recognized in mycomputer. I put the stock 512's back in and everything works fine again.

Are there certain types/brands of ram that do not work with my laptop? I was going to buy some kingston or corsair, but I'm looking for some recommendations.

    Thanks

AMD CPUs are very demanding about RAM and an appalling number of lesser RAM vendors only test against Intel. AMD's low-latency integrated memory controller won't tolerate imprecision that Intel's old-fashioned external controllers will. Many of those same RAM vendors also skip over expensive luxuries like... testing. MemTest will probably find errors though sometimes memory errors only show up when the CPU is under load.

Crucial is the safest bet, but look at the reviews for other brands to see if any other AMD owners have reported success.

Well unfortunately I took the Patriot ram back and wasn't able to try memtest on it.

Fry's has Corair value select ram on sale today for $69 so I figured I'd give it a try. So far so good. I ran memtest, an hour and a half later, no errors. Booted, up and running for 3 hours now, no problem

I can confirm (at least for me) that this ram works on the dv2000z...
