hi - i have ordered dv4000 with 512 RAM from hpshopping. I want to add 1GB RAM in the empty slot which will make my total memory 1.5GB, and I am ordering it now so that it arrives in time to be used with the notebook. Does dv4000 supports more than 1GB RAM?

I have found this as the cheapest one at newegg.com. Will it fit into dv4000?

Yeah it should work with the dv4000, but the chances of it not working are higher given that it is generic RAM. They are not all bad but they are generally untested on specific computers & quality control is poor. I would suggest Crucial or Kingston memory, but they are more expensive than these generic brands but they do come with gurantees to work with your laptop.

When buying generic RAM do take into account the return polices of the store, so in any evantuality you can minimize the penalty.

I'm about ready to buy a DV4000 also, and I noticed the RAM capacity in this model maxes out at 1GB. The spec sheet for the DV4000 says:
    "Total memory slots: two DIMM"
    "Maximum memory expansion: 1GB"

I assume this means the maximum RAM you can have in the DV4000 is 1 GB. Anyone who has one know for sure?

Yeah, I think the dv4000 only supports 1 GB because there isn't any option to configure beyond that on HP's website. We know this isn't the case for all notebooks because HP allows configuration of 2 GB on other models.

Hmm. I just looked at that (thanks for the link) and in fact, it says that _each slot_ supports a 256MB, 512MB, 1024MB, or 2048MB DDR2 SODIMM module.

If each slot supports up to a 2GB module, that's 4GB. Somehow I doubt the dv4000 supports 4GB of RAM. Again, since the website says it supports up to 1GB, that sounds like the most reliable figure to me.

Still, does anyone on here at notebookreview have a dv4000 with >1GB of RAM? Or tried to install more than that?

yes...it is very confusing! different things are mentioned in different sources...Looking at the Kingston website, I think the older version of dv4000 has 1GB maximum limit, while newer ones like dv4170 has 2GB maximum limit.

http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?p=1123033#post1123033 here he says he has used more than 1GB RAM in dv4000

I am postponing my purchase of any additional ram until i read the manual enclosed with my dv4000. :)
