Can someone please help me???? i have a HP turion 64 x2 52tl and am trying to undervolt it. I've read a lot online but all the articles used an older version of RMclock. The RMclock 2.25 wont let me create a new profile...
please tell me how to undervolt, where i may get more information, what to avoid since its a little scary., Has someone succesfully undervolted an AMD x2 with RMclock? Please help....

if you want to undervolt, click on profiles. you should see the multipliers and voltage values. click on the last multiplier. when you do that, the vid select should become white. you adjust those values to decrease the voltage.

then click on the plus next to profiles. go to the specific profile that you want. click the box to use pstate transitions and choose the multipliers you want to use.

these directions are for core duo processors....but i would think that the options are somewhat similar. if not, if you could post up a screenshot, i may be able to guide you through it.

rmclock's interface is not straight forward. If I recall correctly (under linux right now), you should try with 'power on demand' first.

Change the highest voltage first and let rmclock automatically adjust the other voltages. Then select the profile.

Thanks guys. But i will need a more detailed opinions for example Should i enable "use HLT command when OS is idle" , what profile should i use? do i have to choose the same profile for "current" and "startup" managment options?. Should i uninstall AMD cool and quiet first? and do i have it even if i dont see in the startup program list? Please help?? And whiles i am at it, do anyone know a little program that can put a password on a folder in Vista? i want to protect some pics from some of my friends and familys eyes. Thanx.

the HLT command is for if your CPU has a whining sound which I think is an issue with Intel CPUs i think so no you don't need to unless you have this

your startup and current power managements can be whatever you want them to be and they don't have to be the same.

you should use the profile that you want to use all the time when it is undervolted.

no don't remoe cool n quiet, you are undervolting and the idea is obviously to rediuce power consumption and heat, cool n quiet helps do this too. if your CPU is not running at full speed all the time then you have cool n quiet, check CPU-Z for this if you need to.

try searching for folder encryption tools, they hide and lock folders so people you don't want to can't access the files you want to keep secret.

Hei SideSwipe, you are amazing! but i have a few more questions. I remember i read somewhere that the cool n quiet interfers with RMclocks activities.no? and is it important or neccesary to change windows power scheme to performance or battery saver..etc or will RMclock take over? i also read somewhere that i have to set a particular option to 5 or 4(fogotten what it was but i will look and post soon) for turion processors.. Is there anything i MUST do or NEVER do...?

RMClock will take over and in the windows power management, it will show that RMClock power management scheme is there.

As for the cool n quiet, i havent heard about that, where did you hear this?

well yeah what you mustnt do is set the voltages too low so that the cpu freezes up at startup lol

undervolt slowly and keep testing while you do that, also dont enable RMClock to start on startup so if u undervolt too much u can still recover. once u have tested it to work at a voltage acceptable to you then you can enable it for startup

it isnt too hard to use and for me it was very quick to do

thanx, thanx, thanx....1 more question. so i select profiles and under both AC and Battery options there is an option for 'current' and 'startup'. should change the 'current' option, undervolt it, then when all is good, choose the 'startup' option and just put my values there? and then choose 'no management' for the current version again?
-Should i check "auto-adjust intermediate states VIDs"?
-Under profile, is it normal that my VIDs for all FIDs is the same? (1.125V) i though they should be different.
SideSwipe...is your notebook a turion x2? what was your temperature diffirence when you undervolted?

Not one question, but at least three!

    1. Until you are comfortable with your settings, leave the Startup settings as No Management. When you are happy, switch over. (Note, I always use the Performance on Demand profile which I believe means that other software can decide how fast the CPU should go and RMClock just manages the voltage).

    2. Yes, it is easiest to let the intermediate VIS auto-adjust.

    3. The lowest VID first on list) should be no greater than the minimal VID on the info page. If you can get it lower, it is worth trying.

I can't comment on the Turion X2, but with other hardware I have seen reductions in temperature at maximum load of at least 10C.

Is Rmclock 2.25 the latest version?? Because a few month ago I tried to use both the lated version and previous version I was using on my other computer it made my computer crash. What I don't remmber which one excatly I had problem with. So I am just using the old version to monitor the cpu speed. I will try installing the 2.25 version and see what happens.

    yup 2.25 is the latest

I have a intel C2D but the max temp did get reduced by a couple of degrees thanks to undervolting.

it should at least lower your temps by a bit depending on how much you were able to undervolt by. my max voltage was 1.23 now its 1.025. I might going lower than that but right now im comfy with this.

also since i dont use this machine for gaming right now i have limited the voltage selection to the minimum speed so it is running at 1ghz all the time and performance is quite acceptable for just for light use.

You guys are good. i've finally done it. ejl, i think i missed your post. i cant believe it was there...thanx.
Accordin to CPU info by RMclock,
    MIN--(FID)4x--(VID)0.525v
    MAX--(FID)8x--(VID)1.125v
what i was able to get after undervolting..
    (FID)4x (VID)0.775v
    5x 0.825v
    6x - 0.850v
    7x - 0.900v
    8x - 0.950v
my core temp has reduced from approx. 38degrees to approx. 35degrees.
I was hoping to get a core temp of 30degrees. Is there anything else i can do to get there?
-how come i didn't get even close to my min VID?
-does something look unusual or not right about my achieved VID and FID?
-after each startup windows prompts me to allow/disallow RMclock from running. is there anyway to stop this?
-John Ratsey, i thought RMclock will take over from windows power management but nothing says so. i checked under the windows power scheme.
    - Finally, i would like to know the FID and VIDs for turion x2 undervoltors..for comparison.

well i dunno i mean i dont have your processor so i can't tell what your minimum voltage is

but i mean the idea is to get all your voltages at all multipliers as low as possible. so if your CPU can do minmum 4x at 0.525 then you could gradually reduce it to that level and see if it's stable

I wouldn't grumble about 35C. I presume that is on idle. The real benefit in temperature reduction is when you give the CPU some serious work to do.

So before you drop the voltage down very far, get both cores of the CPU working hard. I always run two copies of Prime95, but there are other software with similar effect. Most of the time, Prime95's internal error checks will detect a CPU problem before the computer crashes.

The rule of thumb for long term certainty of stable performance is 2 notches up from where the computer crashes. To test the CPU properly at its minimum voltage and speed you will have to just have only that speed index selected. 0.525V as the minimum CPU voltage is very low. Drop the voltage in small steps and see where the computer falls over.

You are now well up the learning curve.

SideSwipe, thats exactly what i did, making sure that my computer is running at only 4x, i kept reducing the VID until i got to 0.750v, where some horizontal lines started showing up on my scren. so i set it to 0.762v. What i dont understand is that, if my cpu lowest VID is 0.525v thenn why cant i lower my VID to something close to that? not even 0.7v? I think RMclock is defective.
John Ratsey, yes 35C is an idle temp. I'm using ORTHOS stress test which is a dual-core stress test.
And please, how about stoping windows from asking me whether to allow/disallow RMclock from running at startup...and RMclock still not showing up under windows power scheme that its now in-charge?

You could just run rmlauncher.exe as a task in the task scheduler, so that it bypasses the UAC in vista. Or, you could just disable UAC.

Vista uses different power schemes than in XP, so RMclock cannot manage the power schemes of the OS. RMclock can manipulate the individual voltages for each multiplier, but the OS handles the other "power management" tasks such as when to turn off the monitor, when go to standby, etc).

Ok, I installed Rmclock 2.25 and my computer crashed aging a few sec after I setup the mult & VID. I have the DV2125nr Turion 2X 1.6Ghz. So I am not sure What else I can try doing. I tried to set it up at 4x and VID .800v for the min and 8x and 1.075V for the Max. I think that is the actual OS setting and It still crash.

f15hp, this was my first time of using RMclock and fortunately mine did not crash. I have my 4x set to 0.775v and my 8x to 0.950v now. It was lower than this but the laptop was freezing. I dont know why your is behaving this way...
My core temp is back to the 39c - 42c range again. Just as it was before i undervolted. Makes me wonder if it was neccessary to undervolt.

maybe your CPU just can't be undervolted? not every CPU will overclock or underclock, it is unusual but not impossible.

who nows it could just be a crappy windows install, my NHC doesn't work in my current install, it starts then just crashes by itself, no explanation.

So i've uninstalled RMclock 2.25. My laptop keeps freezing. Stepping up the VID doesn't seem to work. Plus my core temp seems to has increased to 48c. I'll try an earlier version of RMclock. this 2.25 may have bugs. it wasnt very friendly to me. Does NHC work good on vista for turions?

in general, it shouldn't affect your idle temps/low usage temps much because your cpu is already at a low multiplier to begin with. however, it makes a rather large difference in load temps. either way, you should be testing the stability of your undervolting with some sort of cpu stress program for many hours to ensure stability.

Ejl, i did. i stressed test with ORTHOS, a dual core version of prime95 i think. Things were ok, but after sometime my laptop started hanging up, forcing me to restart every now and then. So i increases my vid. same problem. i increased my vid again, after sometime same problem..so i increased the vid again...thats when i realized the laptop is hotter now than it was before undervolting.. I'll try an earlier version of RMclock unless someone gives me some info i've been missing....

-my laptop is freezing like every 5munites. how come it did not freeze under stress test for 35munites, when it was on full load?
-under RMclock advance CPU setings, should i check/uncheck any of the following....cos i have a feeling am not doing something right..
    =enable CPU low power
    =enable northbridge low power
    =enable VID/FID change
    =enable altVID change
what does the following mean and how should i change them?
-alterntive VID (set default @1.125v which is my highest un-undervolted VID)
    -alternative VID stablizer time
SHould i change anything under "clockpower/timing settings"?

    please HELP.

when i took out the AC so that i'm now running on battery, my laptop has stoped the 10 munites hangup. My profile for both AC and battery for RMClock is the same (power on demand) What is happening????.

hmm? maybe you should set it all back to default and re-do the procedures. sounds like RMClock for AMD has more options than in Intel.

there could be a thread here for AMD users where you could get answers to AMD specific options for RMClock.

dunno why it's freezing, it is not uncommon for a CPU to suddenly not be able to overclock or underclock when it used to but it doesnt happen often

as for the battery, maybe Vista has some options it uses in battery mode that take over and conflict with RMClock?

i have a core duo, not a turion x2. certain notebooks just don't work well with undervolting software. nhc made my computer crash when i undervolted while rmclock hasn't been much of an issue.

i would suggest trying out nhc to see if it works better for you.

I don't know what the default VIDs are for the Turion X2, but maybe you have got one which needs a bit more voltage. There is a reason for the manufacturers setting the design VIDs higher than most CPUs need.

    F15hp,,
i have a similar turion x2 and i was having problems with RMclock too...Now this's how i solved mine. After several try and errors, i found out that the lowestFID(4x) doesn't want to be undervolted, not even slightly. Set it to its default VID(0.800V) and undervolt the remaining FIDs. i could heavily undrvolt the my highest FID(8x) but the sightest change to the 4x will cause the laptop to freeze or show some horizontal line on the screen
    Good luck.

    I still dont understand Rmclock,
undervolt the pc, stress test for hours and its OK, stop the stress and all activities and the laptop crashes....
How come under load the computer never freezes but without load and booom, you have to re-start.
Maybe i'm not doing something right. Anyone have similar problems??
