I just got a dv6426us and its got the "CPU Whine" or the whine. Anyhow RMclock stopped the whine. I am using these settings....

    http://forum.tabletpcreview.com/archive/index.php?t-3516.html

which seem to NOT kill the battery anymore than Vista will :)

Does Vista's power managment and RMClock conflict at all? The option in the latest version of RMClock to disable the OS settings is greyed out.

PS. I was going to take this notebook back and get another one something else until I googled "CPU Whine" and realized that practically every notebook maker has this problem. I love the notebook and the price $650 was a great deal. It is sad that Intel or whomever cant fix this.

Bump for a great question...I'm wondering the same thing (do they conflict?)

Also, I installed it but that last settings he says are "very important" in the platform tab are all grayed out for me.

Do I have to buy the full version for those setting? Or is something wrong?

I think it's important to note that the CPU whine is not a “feature” of every notebook manufacturer – most notebooks don't make noise. Also, it's not Intel's fault, there are many more bits and pieces than just a CPU. It's the combination of all those pieces with the CPU (or the design) that makes the noise. The fault is with HP for passing it on to you.

I tried this cure few days ago, but like some members already mentioned, I cannot check the "most important" selection. Anyway, using 3rd party software to fix a manufacturing/design flaw isn't really the way to go. Especially in my case as this fix didn't work for me. :D I'll take my unit to the local service center soon and let them try to figure it out.

THey don't necessarily conflict. Vista uses "power plans" for power management, which rmclock 2.25 does not support. The newest beta (2.30) does support the vista power management scheme. You can get the latest release candidate on the online forms on rmclock's website.

As for enabling the pop up/pop down feature, you don't need to have the beta to enable/disable those. Just go into the Advanced CPU features tab and it should contain the function for you to enable/disable it.

I was using version 2.25 with vista and i remember that i could still enable/disable the popup/down feature.

the only reason they would be greyed out is if the processor does not support these features. Looking at the specs of the dv6426us, it shows it having a core duo t2450, which you should be able to manipulate in rmclock.

Is rmclock correctly identifying your processor? If you go to the CPU info tab, make sure that your processor is correctly identified.

did you have a prior version of rmclock isntalled on your computer?

maybe you should restart the application to see if those features are available to you.

You could also try to force enabling these features by going to the registry editor. First, you need to go to the installation directory of rmclock, install the RM_Tweaks.reg, which will enter registry entries to "tweak" rmclock. Just make sure that you don't have rmclock running when doing this.

Once you entered those registry entries, run regedit and go to HKey_Current_User -> Software -> Rightmark -> Rmclock

Scroll down to the entry IntelCentrino.Popdown or IntelCentrino.Popup and change the value to 1 to enable it.

If that don't work, then i dunno what to say.

It's seems it was grayed out because I need the RC2 version of the software. I got that from the Rightmark forums, but it still only helps a little bit.
