I understand that the 9600 is much much better as for as a video card, but I was wondering is the 9200 that bad? Anyone have experience with this card? The only games I will really play on it is Half Life and the different mods such as Counterstrike, etc., and Battlefield 1942. Will these games still be playable?

They should be playable, remember cs is running on a game engine that is at least 5 years old now, the video cards that were all the rage then were the voodoo cards, and now they've been bought out by nVidia.

The 9200 is not THAT bad of a video card. I was capable playing Rainbow Six 3: RavenShield, but not a full res, 800x600 max without any drops in fps and everything was smooth. I tried Prince of Persia: Sands of Time and the graphics were partially corrupt. I guess the card didn't have all the required features to display everything properly. As Quikster indicated, it should work fine for what you want, but if you can get better, that's what I'd recommend. The better the video card & other parts, the longer the notebook will last.

You'd really notice the difference on Battlefield 1942 and pretty much everything else that's recent. Upgrading to the 9600 would be money well spent. For CS, Quake 3, etc., it's as Quikster said.

I really want to stay with Hp because of the speakers and I just like the look better than the Compaq, so my question is...if I go with the zd7000 will the 128mb nvidia geforce fx go5700 be a card that will be better for gaming than the radeon 9200? I have heard that even though this card is 128mb and the radeon 9600 the ati card is still better. But since that card is no longer an option...how will this one work for me?

Those will play fine on the 5200, but, having used and benchmarked both, I would have to say that the 9600 is 3x as fast as the 9200. You decide if that warrants the extra price.

The GeForce 5700 will beat the snot out of the Radeon 9200. Definitely get it if you can. I don't see where the Radeon 9600 would be better? ATI vs. nVidia is largely a religious issue, I prefer nVidia for their better Linux support.

ReverendDC says there will be a HP Athlon 64 notebook with GeForce 5700 coming out soon over here:

    http://www.notebookreview.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=2733

If that's true, it should be worth waiting for. The Athlon 64 is the absolute best CPU for gaming (the low latency integrated memory controller makes a difference). I'm going to buy one when/if it's available. Plus you'll get a nice performence boost when 64-bit WinXP is released late this year.

I know the Nvidia FX 5700 is better than the Radeon 9600. The 9600 pro is slightly slower than the 5700 and the mobility radeon 9700 (read 9600XT, they are the same) is slightly faster.
