Needless to say it was a huge disappointment when HP couldn't provide enough radiance screen on all the Envy, and even more so that they didn't even try to include it on the sexier beats edition. I'm lucky enough to own an Radiance, but I've always liked the shell and the red backlit keyboard of the beats edition better. So yesterday I decided to push my luck and try to swap the radiance screen into a beats edition that I just plucked off from ebay.
In theory this should work. Both models have identical screen size and hardware, if the regular BV could fit inside both the beats and regular envy, the radiance by principle should fit inside the beats edition as well. That is, assuming that HP engineers have some sort of common sense or sanity left in them.
Oh God was I wrong....
It was all fine and dandy when I took the screen apart. Popping the glass off was pretty easy, and taking off the case took some wrangling, but was done.

But when it comes to fitting the radiance into the beats edition, the hair-pulling began

I dunno if you can see in the picture, but the LCD bracket of the radiance wouldn't fit inside the beats. There are a couple of jagged plastic thingys at the bottom of the case that prevents the bracket from lining up with the screw holes. What's worse, the BV's bracket can't be screwed on to the radiance screen because screw holes were on the side instead of on the top.
So there it is. A complete waste of an hour. Other than learning that fact that HP engineers are a bunch of jerks who doesn't know how to keep things simple and compatible, I just took a pretty expensive lesson on Anatomy 101 of the Envy 14.
I dunno if any of you ever thought about doing some thing as crazy as this, but fair warning, don't do it!
On another note, now I have an extra Envy 14 beats edition that I don't need. If anyone wants to buy it, I can let it go for $800.

That is a real shame. I've been considering doing this as well.

How did you take off the glass. Can you put up a semi detailed DIY of it? I finally decided I wanted to remove this piece of dust behind my screen. I heard you need to use a suction cup and just pull forward on the screen and the glass part will pop out?

This should help you:

FYI: it's not glass, it's plastic. -
OK so I need to completely separate the screen from the rest of the laptop first then use a suction cup or card to take apart the screen?
-
yeah. and be sure to peel off the plastic tape covering the bottom. There are screws underneath.

Hi all,
I'm ordering HP Envy 14-2020NR (Sandy Bridge Regular Envy, with Brightview Panel), I want to swap that Brightview panel with my old Regular Envy (Radiance).
Does it (radiance panel) fit with HP Envy 14-2020NR?
Because the Radiance doesn't fit with my old Beats Version (i tried last year), they are different :
1./Bracket.
2./The black border (bottom) of Plastic Cover of Radiance Panel (Regular Envy) is more thicker than the Brightview of Beats Version. (Are they the same between old Regular Envy (Radiance) and new Regular Envy (Brightview) -
nobody confirmed it yet, but I am sure you will enlighten us when you get your SB envy

No.
I've tried it. Also, the plug doesn't seem to have as many contacts.
The screen only displays every other line when plugged into the Envy OLD regular
