Surprised that no one has brought this up yet but the radiance screen is back as an option for 200 extra bucks as of timing of this post.
I'm really torn now since I took advantage of the MS store deal for 799. Not sure if it is worth it for 1200 bucks vs 800 just for the screen (though I would end up paying about 1080+tax with my corporate discount through hp.com--10%). Thoughts?

Haha, I was just coming here to post about this. My friend spilled wine on my 2 month old Envy 14 last week, so I was just shopping this morning for a new laptop, saw the Radiance display was available, and bought it! I'm so excited. I hope it's not an error or something.
Also, for an FYI, I used this code 'NB5321' and with a configuration over $1299, it took $200 off. -

Get it while you can, its for a limited time.
-
-
That is tempting, but it isn't available on the beats edition for some reason. And I can't tolerate how flowery the back of the regular one is.
Plus I have a nice 24 inch at home -
Aaargh - I'm now beyond my return period on my Envy thanks to it having been in service for the past 3 weeks - so while I would have gladly paid the extra for the Radiance option in the beginning, I don't have this option now. I'm seriously pissed.
-
Really tempted to buy it now but I will wait for the next line of HP coupons and hope for discounts on the Envy (seeing they are having the 2011 models and need to get rid of the 2010 models).
If not, it will be a hard decision between the HP.com configured one and the Amazon, non-radiance one. -
God damn they dont have it for the Beats edition =(
Is it on their spare parts site? -

This seems like great news for people with damaged screens wanting to get them replaced (me included).
Hope this change is permanent! -

im not into the 14 but seeing stuff in this forum I see the problem with radiance going on for a while.
What really interests me is what is the deal with hp and radiance? It was once said the company is gone, so what happened? They found a stock pile somewhere laying around so they can offer for a "limited time"?Or if the company is not out of business then why a "limited time" at all? Dont tell me it hurts them to earn some more pretty cash, lol -
Wonder what's this "screengate"'s all about. Have they found another company? If yes, why is this said to be only a limited time offer? If no, have they found some secret Radiance stash in their basement now or what?
Tthey could also roll out their Envy 14 refresh soon (I'd really love this laptop series to be better known amongst people) with Radiance which will be compatible with the current generation! (of course, it's just my wish right now) -
maybe they're trying to get rid of all the refurbished radiance screens and putting them onto new laptops D:
-
I understand if its an exchange you're doing, but when you buy a NEW item.... it is against the law to give you a refurb... think about it...
Are you going to buy a brand new car and the dealer is going to give you a refurb engine@?#?@#?@ I think not!

is the radiance really worth the $350 extra? im comparing the microsoft store price of $800 vs. a similarly equipped one on the HP site with the current $200 coupon. with taxes, thats a pretty big difference just for a screen. no?
i was playing with a sony Z series yesterday that had a 1600*900 screen and while it was good, (the fonts WERE a little small though) i dunno if its $350 good! -
I suppose personal taste...but I find the etched laser case in metal so much sexier than a black case...oh to each his own.
KJ -
hey guys, i'm about to order one but why is it 350 extra? its only 200 for me.
Also, pleassse link me to places where I can find coupons...I've been looking for the past hour. -
i only say $350 cause if u build it out with the specs of the microsoft one (i5-460, 640gb HD) than add tax it comes to about a $350 differnece...for me at least. -

With Tax...complete price >>>>>>> $2,059.74
Sorry, but this is an UNACCEPTABLE price!!!! No bluray, no 1080, no 3D... screen....yah, If I was going to stay with the basic, i5, low ram maybe it be worth it, but I guess you have to pay to play, and this lap won't suit my play needs.
KJ -
Why do you need a quad core processor for a "mobile" laptop? I would suggest if you need a quad-core waiting for a SB edition since that configuration would probably run for an 1 1/2 or 2 if you are lucky on one charge.
-
I agree, there is no need to get a quad core for the E14...but it was fun to config.

I'd argue its an overkill for a gaming machine as well.
-
eh i'd get an i7 for a gaming machine with a top end graphics card and futureproof a little bit but definitely not for the envy and its graphics card
-
- 8GB of RAM is a rip off IMO if you buy it from the manufacturer. No matter the company, it always is.
- You don't have to upgrade to the premium priced Radiance display
- The mobile broadband built in is another premium upgrade that most other laptops don't have.
- You selected some sort of extended warranty, which bumps up the price a few hundred dollars. -
heck no, never! It comes with 2 years warranty. I use my Costco American Express which doubles it to 4 years of service, can't beat that...I'm still gonna wait for the Envy 17 3D SB edition.
KJ -
I dont see the point of them bringing it back for a limited time, why? they must not like people spending another 200 bucks. I mean its pointless, I think they are just saying it to increase sales at their end.
-
I've already committed to the beats edition.
But if I were to go after the Radiance display I would do it like so.
i5-480M
6GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
14.5" diagonal HD+ HP Radiance Infinity LED Display (1600x900)
Price 1299.99
enter NB5321
New price: 1099.99
You can get the i7, but there isn't much point, you'll get a super horrible battery life out of it, at which point I would ask, why are you not just building a desktop?
I would consider the radiance display, but I have nice 24 inch monitor at home and only need the machine so I can program on campus. The i5 is a pretty darn fast chip and unless you are doing some pretty serious stuff, I see no point for the i7. Now the i7 does have advantages for gaming but again there are sacrifices. -
-
Anyway, I checked on HP Japan's site and they don't have the radiance screen option. The Beats edition is the only Envy 14 they sell in either an uncustomizable i5 or a customizable i7.
Oh well, I bought the i7 a few months ago and love it even without the radiance screen. Great performance in all of my games and the slice battery helps if I need to move around. -
I really wished they had a better coupon active now. like what the other guys said...it's about a $350 bump in price if you compare to the Envy 14 microsoft was selling the other day.
-
I hope this is permanent, too. I'm glad for this.
-
Anyone else kinda getting suspicious? Like maybe the just 'happened' to have some extras laying around to get rid of before they refresh?
-
-
Since its the reason the envy got great reviews to begin with they'd be dumb not to get it back quickly. I'm sure they will use it in any refresh they come out with as well. -
I hope they refresh the envy line soon..and still offer the radiance display..just wishful thinking
-
no, might not be wishful thinking and i can't wait to have that epic screen. *cleans 10 gal of drool off the floor* the screen + sandy bridge = EPIC WIN. more battery life would be even more awesome. all this with a quad core.
-

-
Hmm, doesn't seem to have been offered in Australia yet.
Does this mean we'll be able to get replacements for faulty Radiance screens? -
after missing out on m$ deal...
please guys if you found a copun anywhere.. tell us
i am not getting it full priced after all the discounts... but still I WANT ONE ;D
