I just got a refurb Envy 14 with the Radiance display from the HP Business Outlet. Obviously the screen exhibits better color and sharper images, however I've noticed on that on dark backgrounds the screen dims when I right click and get the little pop up menu.

Can someone with Radiance screen go to [H]ard|Forum - Powered by vBulletin and right click on the page and watch the background, when right click I can see the background get several shades darker in increments, and then when I click off the pop up menu the background get several shades brighter in increments. (What I mean by increments is that I can see it getting brighter in steps almost like when you are lowering or increasing the brightness when pressing the brightness keyboard settings.)

I right-clicked on the page and I didn't notice any differences in brightness with my radiance

Really? That's concerning, it's very faint but I can see the background around the box that pops up (with properties) get a couple of shades brighter. Watch the grays in the background.

EDIT: It's the gray boxes, watch them as you right click.

SOLVED (Mostly): I figured it out, the refresh rate was set to 59hz, I changed it to 60hz and it fixed it on the web pages. I can still see it doing it in Adobe Photoshop Elements when I open and close a photo (again you will see the gray background darken when you open a photo and brighten when you close it).

Waleed, open Elements and let me know if you see it in the gray background.

Another update, it appears that it only does this when on the power saving GPU, it sets it to 59hz and every time I try to change it 60hz it reverts back to 59hz.

    hmmm.

sounds like the intel gpu drivers are a little bit buggy, just noticed mine sets it at 59Hz on the intel gpu too (lets me swap it to 60Hz and it stays at 60Hz I think. not sure if it goes back to 59 if you swap back again)

I don't have the option to use 59Hz with the ati gpu. Probably just another quirk with the envy14. Has a lot of them.

yeah i think its the intel drivers. I have actually had the same issue with my DV6TSE not an issue when on ATI

Jagsta, I have the same thing on my 3 week old HP Envy 14 with Radiance.. I read your thread like 2 days ago and thought nothing of it.

However, now I'm sitting in a dark room with the brightness up on full. I actually thought the stock black designed HP wallpaper was moving or something. Sure enough, I also read [H] so I right clicked and it dims the background when the right click menu comes up.

No big deal or anything, I doubt anything is messed up.
