I haven't bought a laptop yet lapboy, but now I'm confused again! I was heavily interested in the DV1000, but I'm now looking at the Dell I6000 and 700M with those 30%ish off coupons being offering right now, very tempting you know. My budget is $1350 and I can get around a $2000 machine with that 35% coupon, very nice.

Now, I think both the V2000 and DV1000 are great machines, but I just like the look of the DV1000 better. But if I could only pick the V2000, I would still be very happy with my purchase as that laptop also looks very nice, just not as nice as the DV1000 in my opinion.

Titaniummd, what do you think of your Dell I6000? Why did you trade your DV1000 for it?

    Lapboy,

Very bold of you to call out our young colleague. Based on his latest writings, he is firmly ingrained in the HP DV1000. He favors the flash and pizzaz of the DV1000 over the more opulent and regal V2000. The very V2000 that I shunned away after a mere $50 increase. In the end I traded off the HP DV1k for the Dell i6k.

The outer case of the V2000 is more durable. The DV1000 won't be unscathed for very long. Its delicate outer finish is too delicate (easily scratches). The directional buttons are cheesy looking and fragile (oval in shape).

The i6000 is awesome for battery life. The screen is superior secondary to resolution (WSXGA). It has those dedicated multimedia buttons in the front where they should be. An optional Wireless remote is available for $8 (however, it uses a USB Wireless receiver that is 1/4 the size of a standard mouse). The case is more durable and scratch resistant. The screen doesn't flex when you pull it down by a corner.

Definitely happier with this than the DV1000 and I am not looking back....It does take a man...ahem...to carry it since it is slightly heavier than the DV1000 by 1 pound. This is when you factor in the 1 lb extra for an additional 6 cell battery or 12 cell primary battery that you need making it hit 6.5 lbs anyways. Plus, you can get a DEDICATED VIDEO CARD TO PLAY GAMES, YAAR!. It is quiet and doesn't have the CD ROM nose that Laptop Magazine purported. Another myth is the 6h battery life that is reduced only by 10 minutes with WIFI on. What kind of Frogs are they licking????

    Rahul--

Sorry did not mean to call out but I did not know which thread to ask a personal question.

I am really curious about you because you have done a really exhaustive research before making a purchase.

I tend to purchase on instinct and if I enter a shop I usually always tend to purchase and come out.

Have you looked up the TOSHIBA Satellite M35-S329, I want to purchase it for a very good friend of mine who is abroad.

So if you could give your opinion about it ,I will appreciate it.

Yes lapboy, everytime I buy something, I do research until I am blue in the face! I can't buy something based on impulse or instinct, I have to carefully look at it before I buy it and I am very indecisive about buying anything.

But when I do finally make up my mind and buy a laptop, I'll be sure to give you guys a deep, detailed review.

But when are you finally going to make up your mind and buy a laptop?

The wait is killing me [ :D]

The problem with computers is that ,new models with better specs, keep coming every fortnight, so one can just keep on waiting forever [8D][8D]

    Lapboy,

You are right about that. When I initially started looking, I thought, "I don't want or need the Sonoma". However the price was right and the configuration I 'needed' came up so I said, "What the Heck?" My major priority became screen resolution and battery life. I figure I would be safe for 8-12 months.

I was joking with Rahulnirmal that he should wait for the DV8000 and V8000 before he decides to buy. However, he will be a sophomore by then and then just opt for a Boutique Laptop since he needs to play Doom 5 or something.

Well, I don't absolutely have to play these new games, but it would be pretty nice. I think I'll buy a cheap laptop for college and then a desktop for gaming.
