Search appears to be broke on this site. Receiving my Envy 17 tomorrow. If it is not all busted up like my Envy 15 was, I would like to install 2xCorsair SSD 240gb drives setup as Raid 0. I am sure(hopeful) it will support that setup. I read where the old gen Envy 17 did not support Raid 0, hoping HP came to their senses since.

    Would like to know otherwise
    Thanks,

I do not have a second hard drive in place so I cannot say for sure, but word on the street here is that the second drive bay is only Sata 2 (msata and drive bay 1 are both Sata 3), and I do not think raid is enabled. I do not remember seeing any raid options in bios. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

That's for a Sandy Bridge model, not the Ivy Bridge model you're getting.

From what I've seen on here, there are little to no options in the BIOS, especially for RAID. You probably won't be able to do it at the BIOS level from what I've seen.

Appreciate you chiming in, guess I will know here shortly. Suppose I can just setup two separate drives, just preferred the Raid0 setup, care little about reliability as it syncs with my NAS nightly anyhow, just looking for more speed.

But will post up later this evening on how it works out, laptop shows out for delivery, hope this is one of those rare HP units with no issues. :D

The current generation Envy 17 has HM76 which means no SRT or RAID. The dv7 oddly enough had HM77, which did support RAID.

Since it's Windows 7, you should be able to do RAID 0 if you have Professional or Ultimate. Home will only let you do RAID 1.

How to Set Up RAID on Your PC | PCWorld Business Center

Numerous articles on how to do it out there on the Internet. Won't work as well as RAID support in the BIOS, though it's something.

See, that's one thing I don't get. Why have a "better" chipset in a "lesser" machine? I guess HP considers the Envy more "Apple-like", so they scaled back RAID out of the BIOS. Same goes for SRT, which is a shame.

    Yeah.. oh well.

Don't need RAID or SRT anyway :D

I use the Samsung 830 256GB as OS drive which is plenty for my games and programs. It is fast enough to pretty much saturate SATA III.

The stock 750 GB 7200 RPM drive sits in the second bay as a storage drive for backups and movies.

I was going to do the RAID 1 route for my original Envy 17 order which had 2 x 1TB drives, though decided against it. Replaced it with a new order that only has a 750GB hybrid HDD, though I'm also adding a Samsung 830 256GB for programs. If I can find a place to order it, I'm also ordering either a Crucial or Mushkin mSATA for OS/programs/other stuff since I might as well use the mSATA port that's there and I'm forced to use it for boot.

Received, no RAID 0 as stated above, thanks. Put in 2x Corsair SSD 240gb drives. Running perfect, not in RAID, but it will suffice. Thanks everyone.

What speeds do you get on the second drive? Just wondering if it is indeed Sata 2.
