Ralink 802.11 b/g/n WiFi Adapter Driver Installation Problem

sp50683 could be installed at my 8510w WIn 7 Pro X64 and the system warning is "Unable to execute the specified command line!" as attached hereof.

 

The softpaq you downloaded, might be corrupt. Try to download again. Make sure you are running the softpaq as administrator. This could also happen if your wifi card manufacturer is something else than Ralink.

I did try re-download and always running it as administrator but all failed.

After checking my machine, the wireless adaptor is Intel(R) Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN. Does this mean that my wifi card manufacturer is not Ralink?

Yep, that is exactly what that means. Your WiFi card is made by Intel, not Ralink. The latest compatible drivers for your WiFi card and Operating System can be downloaded by clicking this link: http://downloadmirror.intel.com/19514/eng/ICS_Ds64.exe

The Release Notes for this driver version can be read here: Release Notes for Intel® PROSet/Wireless WiFi Software.

As you will see from the Release Notes, your wireless device is supported by this driver version.

As your laptop isn't in the title of the thread for supported notebooks as indicated by justinkw1 who maintains all of the driver links there, I wouldn't assume that any other drivers in that thread pertain to your computer, but you may be able to keep up to date with the most current WiFi drivers for your card there. However, if you plan to do that I suggest checking the Release Notes for each new version just to be certain that your device is in fact supported.

I did go Intel site and test via Intel® Driver Update Utility with following result:

Wireless Networking
Product Detected Intel® Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN
Current Intel® PROSet/Wireless WiFi Connection Utility Installed 13.3.0.0
Your driver is current.

Should I update it to 13.4 as per http://downloadmirror.intel.com/19514/eng/relnotes.htm?

I personally like to keep all of my drivers current up to the latest released version, so if I were making the decision, I would definitely update. That being said, if you have reservations about updating for whatever reason, if the current driver version that you are using works fine, and if there isn't anything in the Release Notes which indicate that an update would benefit you, you certainly don't need to. I just like knowing that my driver version is current with all of the latest "fixes" even if they don't necessarily apply to me.
