Has anyone had experience with the inside of dv9700? I just got a 2GB stick of Kingston and want to install it, but I'm not too familiar with the inside of a laptop yet. I've replaced ram several times in few desktops, but am a little hesitant to mess with the hardware of the laptop. I know it's gonna be cake once it's done, but any advice will help!

You won't need to open up the whole laptop. There's a little door on the bottom that goes right to the RAM. It's much easier than on a desktop.

Also, it's a good idea to test your RAM once you install it. Take a look at my RAM test with memtest86 guide in my sig.

Which speed does your memories speed. Is it 667 MHz or 800 Mhz. Or does anyone knows if 800 Mhz rams are compatible with dv9700. Thanks in advance.

It will fit, but most likely will be downclocked to 667Mhz.

Definately fit but pointless as the santa rose platform only supports 667mhz

My laptop (dv9790) has a penryn processor (Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo Processor T9300 (2.50 GHz, 6 MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB)). Does it make any difference?

800mhz FSB is your processor bus speed. Your processor still sits in the santa rosa platform which only supports up to 667mhz

Yeah, it's one of those shameful marketing things by intel. Sure, the processor FSB can run at 800MHz, but it can only talk to itself at that speed, so what good is it? It's pretty low and a crappy way to treat your customers.

Thanks a lot for your info. I just ordered 2x2gb 667 MHz veritech. Now it's time to upgrade to 64 bit vista.

 Where did you get your discounted Ram for the DV9700 series? New Egg does not show compatibilty with that series. I have 2GB/2DIMMS but want to switch to a compatible 4GB/2 DIMMs: I have the T9300 processor.
    Thank you!

You probably want to check out the hot ram deals thread. Your answers will be found there.

Yeah, that's where I found the New Egg links. However, they cannot advise and their configuring chart doesn't cover DV9700s. Wierd. Just want to get the right RAM at the right price.

RAM isn't specific to any one computer, it all conforms to a very small set of standards. Any RAM that meets that standard will work in your system. Your notebook will work with any PC2-5300 or PC2-6400 that's for LAPTOPs. The 6400 is more expensive (and theoretically faster), but the memory bus does not operate that fast, so it will fall back to 5300 speeds.

You can always check crucial.com to get recommendations or just look up the specs of your system.

I don't mean to hi-jack this thread but does upgrading the RAM on the dv9700t void the warranty?

Also does anyone have experience with this RAM?
It seems to have really good timings for a good price.

    then don't.

No, by law in the USA, it does not void the warranty (unless the RAM can be proven to have caused the problem).

Its nearly impossible for them to notice you changed the RAM, unless you break something of course.
