I have a presario cq57 with 2 gb of ram memory, 2 sticks of 1gb each. I would like to upgrade to at least 4gb or ram, 2 sticks of 2gb each. My ram sticks memory say: 1rx16 10600s 9 10 c1.... I've been looking all over and I have not found the exactly ram I need. I've found 1rx8 10600 ddr3 which is what I kinda need, but 1rx16 is hard to find. Does anyone know the differences between the 1RX16 and 1Rx8 and other sizes? I want to order a 1xr8 cause I think it works since it says 10600 ddr3 (like my stock ram) but I don't know if its gonna work. I think the 1rx16 is the size of the stick? so if I buy 1rx8 it may be a little smaller and it won't fit? Please help

I had to do some googling but it is as I expected.

Both should work. I think 1rx16 means you have 16 memory chips on the SO-DIMM and 1rx8 would mean they are double the size, only 8 chips.

On modern computers it shouldn't matter much. 10 years ago it was problem when some computers couldn't read high-density DIMMS correctly.
