My Custom dv 6500 hp notebook has this weird beep. Once a while it beeps like when a regular desktop reboots. It is a semi high pitch beep. A month ago I thought it was over heating because i left it on a seat cushion and it beeped. But then when i was at my dorm, i was taking out the 12 cell battery and it beeped again so i know it wasn't overheating. And just now I am back at home and on the cushion again, but i have an Antec Notebook Cooler attached to the USB port so I have no clue. So any answers on what the heck this beep is would help. Thank You.

My laptop (HP Compaq 6710b) also beeps (one single beep) from time to time. Definitely not a problem with heat, CPU temperature is about 45-50 degrees celsius (Everest).

My dv6500t beeps from time to time too. Sometimes the duration of the beep could be up to 3 seconds long. I have yet to find out why it does beep when it does. I also talked to a friend who has a tx1000 notebook, and it does the same thing too.

The beep occurs in place of system sounds. Lets say you disable the system sounds on XP, then the beep takes place of the default XP sound to warn you about something. It's nothing big, I wouldn't worry. It also happens to me, but not much. Once every three or four months. Just turn on the default XP sounds and put the notebook on mute. Hopefully that will solve the problem.

*You guys are talking about this loud beep not coming from the speakers right? Like it's internal, from inside the notebook like desktops?

yeah its probably coming from the internal speaker, and its probably a warning for something (maybe low battery?)

I have Vista Buseness. It comes from inside, and it just can't be connected with battery or the heat. It is not bothering me, because it happens only once in a few days. It just puzzles me...
