Hey everybody,
I just got a call from my family about the family desktop (Pavilion Elite m9402f) that's now randomly shutting down on its own. I'm told that if they try leaving it on, it'll just turn off after a random amount of time. Does anybody have tips on how to solve this issue over the phone (I'm currently ~250mi away and won't be back until winter break)?
Last time I visited, I dusted the internals with a can of air, and made sure not to touch anything (avoiding ESD) and made sure not to spray any propellant into the case. don't know if the dusting should affect performance negatively though, but that's the only time anyone's been inside the computer.

They need to check temps. Hwmonitor or realtemp would do. Prehaps the RAM needs reseating or one of the cables inside is a little loose. They need to check all connectors to make sure they are firmly in their respective sockets.
A good vacuuming might also be in order. Don't worry, even though an air vortex can create static, there's not enough suction is the majority of vacuum cleaners to generate the damaging kind of static.
Other than that, dunno without more info.
BTW, generally speaking, desktop discussion threads are usually closed with a note to defer to the sister site, Desktopreview.com. -
my cousins laptop also does this.. he says when the laptop is hot it shutdowns :/
