Hello! My name is x and I recently purchased a notebook from HP. I
have had problems with the machine rebooting by itself from the beginning
and at one point it would not boot at all. Even the recovery partition
would not work even after pressing F11. I called tech support and they
sent me the recovery dvds which I recd yesterday. However that fails as
well with an error - have already tried twice.

Chat Transcript Ends Here
I have crossed out some of the personal info...but this is what I have had to go through. Prior to this, I got dropped 3/4 times, kept on hold > 1 hour, came across a tech support who ridiculed me, transferred from one person to another 5 times during ONE call.
-
Before we get started, you forgot to remove your name completely from the transcript.
Anyways, HP, or any big name computer retailer are all known for shoddy customer support. People want cheaper laptops, and thus the companies cut costs by outsourcing support. Apart from that, I would call HP on their customer service line. I was able to set up a return in about 10 minutes without any difficulties. -
I don't even care anymore about my name...not sure what to think about this...i couldn't get past the stupid IVR because I have an accent.
-
So you waited 2 months to do something about the problem?
-
what makes you think i waited 2 months?
ordered the machine in sept 2007, recd it in oct 2007, and now its the beginning of November....have been working with tech support since the beginning until I got this hero who took the cake. -
Oh, well excuse me, I must have mis read that.
But no need for this "nitwit" to help you out
Good luck -
Sounds like a bad hard drive from what you started explaining to the guy (geez that support guy was an iiiidddiiooottt, I'd be frustrated/pissed too). If you have a Vista anywhere cd you can try doing a clean install (follow Orev's directions in the sticky at the top of these forums), I did it with mine and it worked great....although I didnt have issues like you've been having. One thing you can try is pulling out your primary hard drive and check the connectors and re-seat them.
I'm glad I can fix most stuff myself because if I had to deal with this level of support I'd go postal. If ya post more details on your problem we might be able to help ya out.
-Reby -
was there really a person on the other end? maybe they are using a automated chat tool or something.....
I think the AI would be a lot better than this person -
Go online to you hp.com account profile and see what phone number is listed under your billing and shipping address. It doesn't make sense that the numbers wouldn't match up. It makes less sense for them to be such a pain about a stupid phone number.
My experience with the online chat was pretty crappy too, but on the sales side. The sales CSR chat rep said it was not possible to configure a dv9500z with an hdmi port even though it is.
Anyways, I would just call and deal with a live person over the phone. Just keep pressing 0 and maybe you get a live person and out of the phone system. -
Next time just call up and ask for the case manager if you dont get any progress within 10mins.
Companies that outsource are idiots. Always about more money in their pockets, and never any customer responsibility. -
Companies that don't outsource only cater to niche markets.
There are three main components to a company: price, quality, and service.
If two of them are good, the third one's bad. -
wow... its like the tech support gets worse by the hour
-
-
All,
I just came across a friend who had the same problem. His was solved very quickly after he went to the BBB. I will be doing the same... -
wow. that is so messed up
