I changed it to 1, thinking that would help for reasons stated on some websites.
Then I came across this forum not too long ago, reading up on the warning note:
"Warning: Do not touch MSCONFIG processor settings!
If you touch the #of processor settings in MSCONFIG/boot/advanced options you will get false # of Core/Thread readings in CPU-Z.
It will also lock your processor at one core and it will run at max speed."
Since then, I have reformatted my laptop and did a clean install.
However, when I went to check my # of drivers in msconfig again, it was still 1, so I changed it back to 4.
BUT does that really mean it's back to normal or am I really stuck with 1 and I'm just getting a false report? (Is that what it means by the last statement of the warning note?)
If I am stuck at 1, is there anything I can do? Please help!
An early thanks!!

you can change it back to normal in msconfig, things should be fine.
honestly what you're suposed to do is just detick the # of processors checkbox and it'll go back to autodetecting the correct number (whatever total # of threads your cpu has) -
Thanks. I've changed it since then, but I guess my question is what do they mean by "lock" when they say "It will also lock your processor at one core and it will run at max speed?"

it means windows will only see X number of processor and well...that isn't really what you want. It also may cause other issues
Read up on wrong info and changed # of processors on msconfig
