Ok I just installed the newest Realtek HD Audio drivers for windows xp and when I go into the mixer Microphone Output is MISSING! I need this in order to broadcast both my voice and music when DJ'ing on Shoutcast radio...
Does anyone know how to get Microphone output/playback to show in the mixer? Here are some screen shots of what I'm talking about. Please! I'm counting on you tech dudes!
And yeah I "can" mess with the microphones recording volume but you see... I need the microphone playback there so that I can broadcast both my voice and music when recording with "What You Hear".

Nobody has a clue how to fix this?

Your laptop was designed to run on Vista by HP. Its what you get when you install XP, limited driver support.
Theres about 6 threads in the last 2 days having problems with XP audio -
Well the Microphone should be in your Recording group, its considered an input.
Try going to your device manager. (short cut is: Windows key+Pause/break... press right arrow twice, then press Alt+D)
see if there is anything with a yellow icon... which means its an unknown device... -
Yes the Microphone is in my recording group but that does me no good if I want the sound coming out of my microphone to come out through my speakers.
So it sounds like I'm out of luck because realtek doesn't support microphone output? I mean it didn't even let me in Vista. So I guess I'm going to have to buy an Audigy Soudcard to plug into this laptop instead... /sigh -
nah, realtek doesn't need to have microphone output... Microphone is an input device, its up to the software to output it... Output/Input devices only work one way... if you want your mic to work with your stream and your stream is based of what your sound card is outputting you simply unmute your mic... your mic is always outputting but is always muted until you need it....
Now if your stream is based off what is playing on your winamp channel then that is an issue with winamp not properly supporting the broadcasting of one or more of your inputs. -
Also make sure your Microphone is 'Selected' in your recording group(check the box at the bottom of the device.)... windows can only be using one input device at a time... make sure it is selected so it know what it should be monitoring. You could also try enabling 'Mic Boost'.
EDIT:
"Wave" is 'what you hear' btw. -
Ok here is how shoutcast works when its set to Soundcard Input. Whatever it can hear playing out of the speakers is what it is going to broadcast. Theres no way getting around that I'm assuming in my case. Now when I go to my input settings (Recording Control) I have 2 choices either Microphone or Stereo Mix.
And the what puzzles me is that I can only have 1 input (select) running at a time, not both. If I set input to microphone it broadcasts my voice but not the music. If I set it to stereo mix it will broadcast my music and not my voice, regardless if either is muted or not. Here is a screen shot of what I'm talking about. So again, I'm trying to get both my voice and music streamed over the broadcast.

yeah, i know this is hard to map out, I did this a long time ago... took me about a month or so, but i believe i was finally able to get it to work...
Give me a bit I'm going to try and retrace my steps. -
Ok, very much appreciate the help. =)
-
to hear my voice in xp i used to just unmute the Mic and Line IN... and it will still play the music from winamp..
-
If you look at my screen shots I don't have those options. I'm thinking the problem is my sound card isn't allowing my microphones volume to be adjusted in the Master Volume window as you can see... It's not even listed.
-
Geez... I've looked at almost 15 different forums asking my same question and there has not been one answer. I've seen solutions to other peoples setups but they do not apply to my situation sadly. I'm starting to think that it may just be impossible to stream both music and voice on this sound card...
-
There definately is a way, but most likely the solution will be in vista where you can actually see and test the microphone
Another solution might be an external USB 5.1 soundcard
Im playing around with the mic atm on Nero wave editor to test it out.. seems a little weak -
I'm using Windows XP not Vista. I Downgraded.
-
So nobody came up with a solution? This is a HUGE question people are asking across tons of forums. Would just like to find an answer so I can relieve everyone else who is having this terrible problem.
-
I have exactly the same problem. (no microphone in output channels)
Now I'm using XP, but I've had this problem in Vista too. I've tried almost all possible realtek HD audio driver.
In addition, I would mention the scratchy, strange, annoying noise in the background when I try to record something and play it back later..(sounds terrible)
On my other computer, there's no noise like that when I'm recording and playing back.. Anyway, please let me know if you came up with any solution. -
OceanSide08 which machine do you have? Can you tell the VID and PID of your sound card seen in device manager?
