Rebuilding dv9700t and wondering which software is it

I received my dv9700t about a month ago and my plan all along was to test out Vista to see if I liked it, and then rebuild after the decision to either XP or Vista so that I had a nice clean install. Well that time has come, and I have decided to keep Vista. Well, I began the clean install last night, and right now my goal is to have a completely clean install with all currently available updates, and then make a set of backup disks, so that the next time I want to install I can at least skip the first batch of updates.

Well anyway, everything has gone perfectly so far, and I'm in the process of installing SP1 now. My question is, which software is it that allows the mute touch button to change from blue to orange when the system is muted? The buttons work correctly, but just don't change color, and I really like having the visual. Keep in mind that I have only install AVG and drivers. No software other than Vista.

    Thanks for your help.

SOLVED: Install the Realtek High-Definition Audio Driver

I think you need HP QuickPlay, but I'm not 100% sure.

That was my first guess, but before I rebuilt, I disabled the QuickPlay service so that the Snipping Tool would load quickly (apparently there is a conflict). Maybe it's another part of QuickPlay that does the light and is not part of the service.

    Thanks

The sound drivers are responsible for the blue/orange mute light not the Quickplay button/software

Thanks. So I assume that means that I need the drivers from HP's site. I can't remember if those drivers were installed by Vista, or from SWSetup.

Glad that I don't need to install QuickPlay though.

I will do some more checking and testing tonight when I get home and see what I can find out. So far, I have let Vista install everything, and when it was looking for any drivers, I just pointed it to the SWSetup folder.

Install the QuickPlay software (QPW folder under SWsetup) and the QuickPlay Button Drivers (QLB folder under SWsetup) to get the buttons to work correctly and change colors. To get the on screen display of the volume, install HP QuickTouch Software from the HP website under Software - Solutions at the Software & Driver downloads page.

Well bummer. That's 2 votes for QP. I hate those buttons as I always seem to hit them, and the service conflicts with the Snipping Tool. If that's the only way, then I guess I may be out of luck. Oh well. Thanks for the help.

If you don't like quickplay and just want the volume and mute button to work then just install the QuickPlay Button Drivers (QLB folder under SWsetup). Just installing those drivers will make the mute button change colors from blue to orange. I just uninstalled quickplay and the mute button still turns orange.

I had the long lags with the onscreen display related to the QuickPlay Volume Buttons...(I sent the computer back for an exchange so that I'd get another 21 days to evaluate).

Someone at HP has got to figure out what is going on with this lagging problem. I see the suggestion to disable the onscreen display (not a terrible solution if it works)...but it should just WORK.

I have tried reporting this to HP, and there are other threads, including mine, on this topic.

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=241176

I wonder if the problem occurs after a certain software update downloads. (mine worked out of the box and after a system recovery)

How can we get HP to fix it?

    Thanks again.

    RE-installing, or just installing

When I first installed Vista, I can't remember if Vista installed the audio drivers itself, or I pointed it to find them in the SWSetup folder. There were a handful of devices that were not installed by Vista and I just went through one by one and pointed them to the SWSetup folder.

Anyway, since I was having this issue, I just downloaded the driver from HP's website, and installed them on top of what I currently had installed.

Well, to be honest, I haven't tested the sound quality yet. I just installed them because I was installing all the newest drivers from HP's website, and noticed that the lights worked.

Did you install the latest version from the HP website? I first installed them from the SWSetup folder and that didn't work.

    ohh ok cool.

uninstall the sound drivers along with UAA and then reinstall. install UAA first, then install the sound driver.

    [EDIT]
wait a min.... you shouldnt have to mess with UAA if you have Vista..

just uninstall and reinstall the sound drivers

    conexant:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...&cc=us&lang=en&os=2093&product=3652825&dlc=en

    realtek:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...&cc=us&lang=en&os=2093&product=3652825&dlc=en

only install ONE of these drivers... but first determine what sound card you actually have.
