Hello everyone, I am thinking of rebuilding my new dv2000t that I just got because of all the junk HP put in when I bought it. And I want to ask a few questions to make sure before doing this myself, and I don't want to screw up my new laptop in case of errors.

My order came with the System Recovery DVD and I have Windows XP Media Center right now, and I want to reformat/rebuild everything to Windows XP Pro (I still have the CD from an old laptop).

Now, if anyone here has rebuilt their dv2000t before, is this process complicated? Does the Recovery DVD do everything? And does the DVD contain all the drivers installations that dv2000t needs? And when it's rebuilt, will the junk softwares still be there?

    Thanks!

    Here's my dv2000t:

    Windows XP Media Center
    Intel Core 2 Duo T7200 2.0GHz
    Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950
    2048MB DDR2 System Memory
    80GB 5400RPM Hard Drive
    8X DVD+/-R/RW
    Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network w/Bluetooth

When I rebuild it, will the webcam, Bluetooth still work? And many other stuff that came with it? Thank you!

first, that is called "reformatting" not "rebuilding"
no experience with the dv2000t, but drivers and xp should pretty much be a moot point by now.
if something doesnt work, then hunt for a driver on your cd, but you should have no qualms about reformatting.

As long as your old XP Pro CD isn't tied to the BIOS of your old machine or something, you should be fine. You NEED to backup everything in the SwSetup folder on your hard drive first. This is the installer for all the drivers/software on your machine. You will also need to check the guides on this forum for instructions as a default XP CD doesn't have the SATA driver you'll need for the XP Install CD to find your hard drive. It's not as simple as it should be, but it is possible. Personally, I think if you're going to upgrade to Vista soon, it's not worth the hassle of reformatting and reinstalling XP.

What happens if you forgot to backup the SwSetup folder?

And is SwSetup the only thing you need to backup? Beside your music/homework and all that stuff.

But the Recovery DVD has those HP junk in them right? So what's the point of reformatting from the Recovery DVD, and then installing those junk again? And then backing up the SwSetup? Why can't they go back to the old days when it was easy to reformat your computers?

Sorry, I am still learning and a newbie. Thanks.

If you forgot to backup your SwSetup folder and you've already reformatted, you can get the drivers you need, but not the software off of Hp's website.

Well, if you use the recovery DVD you get all the "junk" reinstalled with no option to not install it. Backing up the SwSetup folder gives you access to all your drivers/programs should you choose to install them, but doesn't force you to do anything.
