I've heard some folks mention recalls on the dv9000. I can't find any info on the HP website that mention it, though.
Anyone know what the specific recalls were?

Is this what you're referring to? It's a pretty old technical bulletin, but the problem stem's from Nvidia royal screw up with their defective 7th and 8th generation GPUs. -

Thanks for the link! I'm trying to figure out what's wrong with a friend's dv9339us. I sold it to her about a year ago...and apparently lifetime tech support is part of the deal!
Even though it does have the nVIDIA GeForce 7600 graphics card, it isn't showing as one of the product numbers recalled. Were some of the 7000-series nVIDIA models among the ones that were failing? I know the 8600 and 8800 were the ones I heard the most about.... -
Its for laptops with Nvidia chipsets not graphics cards. So only amd systems

What you are referring to is probably the defective nVidia GPU's.
If they fail, they fry out the card and motherboard.
They are covered in an extended care warranty though, that HP is providing free of charge. -

Gotcha. I forgot that HP used nVIDIA chipsets on models with AMD processors until recently. Now it's just AMD-based Compaq models and the mediocre HP G60 that use nVIDIA chipsets, if I'm not mistaken. -
Yep because ati is better
Recalls affecting the HP Pavilion dv9000???
