Well got my dv6500t this morning.. hooked up the internet and then I uninstalled Norton.. oh boy.. After restart I lost my connection.. Tech support had me do a restore point to put norton back on and I got my connection.. Then she told me how great norton was.. how great it is LOL. Now they remotely have taken over my computer and have been in the registry for 45 minutes tying to root out the VONGO crap.. line by line.. Its insane. I love this new notebook but WTF with all the bloatware.. I still don't know how to uninstall the norton without killing my network. Hopefully the tech can do this as well remotely. HP makes i nice notebook but the crap they put on this is much worse then Dell. I did not get one of those anytime dvd's either.. will update later on this..
-
-
crap, no anytime dvd? I was depending on that for a clean install. Was your notebook a cto or prebuilt, from where?
-
-
crap, I didn't check the 19 dollar option
can i get it later on? -
All CTO and Retail HP's should come with Anytime Discs. Norton can be removed individually with the Norton Removal Tool - Google it. The $19 Vista DVD that you order with the HP is just a set of recovery discs, the same that you can burn yourself for nearly free (2 DVD's). The discs still have all the bloatware on them. If you want to 100% remove the bloatware, follow the Clean Install w/o activiation guide.
-
What? Norton does not let you to use wireless? Download the fresh driver for it and get rid of that Norton and other crap. The best way to do it - make a clean install. Don't forget to make recovery discs first. Good luck!

The tech remotely downloaded the norton removal tool.. I should have known better and just done that in the first place.. Mine was a custom build on HP web site.. Is that HP advisor worth keeping? that seems like a pile of bloat too. The vongo should be gone.. she spent alot of time deleting files in the registry.. that program has alot of security features that screw with Vista.. and they don't have uninstall for it. They admit about the norton issues.. just download the norton removal tool and that should work. I really like this display.. its years better then the two dells I had. And the vertical/horizontal viewing angles are much better as well. Dell does ship a much leaner machine as default. The dells boot in a minute.. this thing is nowhere near that fast.. but getting better. I think the HP advisor is a hog. Its probably going to be knifed next.

I can't figure out how uninstalling Norton would make your wireless not work, BTW I have a DV6000T on order and I am planning on dumping the Norton first thing but now i am worried.
-
I dumped norton off of my 9500 without a single hitch.
Sorry man -
-
Hidesert, did you request your vista dvd from hp??
-
-
-
I had a live chat with a hp rep, she said that cto notebooks do not come with a vista anytime dvd, but then again, she didn't know it existed until i told her.
-
No. I assumed I would get the anytime DVD. Things are getting better here. I have uninstalled more stuff.. With the HP advisor I just selected it not to load at startup and also deselected the HP advisor toolbar.. and boom.... my taskbar became transparent.. So if you load that stupid HP adviser and toolbar.. it kills the aero glass taskbar. How much money is Yahoo giving HP anyway? its everywhere and branded on the taskbar and IE. So far, it seems it still takes 30 seconds to shut down and almost 2 minutes to boot up.. that nowhere near what the dell did... Still got allot of cleaning to do I think.. Here is one picture.
Sorry its a bit crooked, but its hard to get one with enough detail to show off how nice these HP displays are. What a difference from the crap Dells. I can always fix software issues but a bad display is bad and always will be.Attached Files:

I just got my CTO dv6500t today, and I didn't get the "Upgrade Anytime" DVD.

I bought my 6500t in july from HP and got no anytime upgrade disks. Looks like they stopped giving them out.
-
The last Anytime Upgrade DVD has been shipped with June 2007 bought laptop.

i cant wait for my dv6500t se to come!
-
I spent two hours last night removing all my bloatware off of my dv6500t
-
thevjm glad to hear, mine is scheduled to be shipped by sept 3rd but I hope to have it in hands by then. BTW could you tell me exactly what programs you removed and what programs you removed from startup, I was told that if you removed the HP wireless advisor that your wifi would stop working but I really don't think that its true.
-
I removed everything from HP, Roxio, and other random things. I've still gotta do a registry cleanup though. Can anyone recommend a program for that?
-
Definately CCleaner. http://www.ccleaner.com/
-
You can always re-install the HP assist programs.. They are located in the C:/SWSetup folder
A clean install is probably the best way to go.. Uninstalling it will just free up space but there are alot of things that still get left behind (registry crap)
Mine takes like 2+ minutes from boot to IE, very slow. Waiting to find a Vista Upgrade CD so i can do a clean install -
I 2nd the Ccleaner, and it is also gives you the option to save any registry fixes you do.

I got my dv6500t on Monday. So far, so good. If the first few hours are any indication, I am going to like this laptop.
I don't have the Upgrade Anytime DVD, so I'm been removing bloatware on the fly. I removed Norton using a step-by-step method I found online. The process included going into the registry. This was the first time I did anything like that. It was pretty straightforward, and it seems to have worked very well.
After removing Norton and some of the bloatware, it's taking about one minute or so to boot up.
I ran CCleaner and will do so again after I remove the remaining bloatware.
I still have two issues. One is the 3.1 WEI graphics score. I haven't updated any drivers, but the score stayed the same even after deleting Norton and some other bloatware. All my other WEI scores are in the 4s.
The other issue is the recovery partition. I have the HP Recovery DVD, so I assume I can delete the partition, but I'm a little nervous. I was going to use Vista Disk Management, but I'm not sure of the process, including merging the two partions together.
This is my first laptop, and I really like it. It's a handsome machine, and it seems to be much quicker that my old P4 desktop.
One note on Vista. I've been a little frustrated just getting familiar with it, but I do like it. It's not that much different than XP, but I think it's more attractive. I think it's a good upgrade, at least for me. -
WOOHOO can't wait to get my dv6500t... shipped from China yesterday! Last new laptop was ~5yrs ago (Dell Inspiron 8200) that is finally on it's last legs.
Can any of you confirm if the Anytime Upgrade DVD can actually be ordered from HP? How long does it take to ship? Free? I'd order mine now before I even get the comp.
Also, can anyone confirm if the dv6500t can be upgraded to a 7200 RPM HDD? So far, no CTO options for 7200 RPM drives so I'm wondering if there will be heat-related issues.
...can't wait for T7800 procs to be available to eventually slap one of those
puppies in! http://www.channelregister.co.uk/2007/09/07/intel_price_cuts/ -
I'm planning to backup programs that I want to keep, and clean install the notebook - after mine arrives. Formatting didn't take so long in an Acer 5100 notebook so I doubt that this notebook will take any longer.
-
-
Yup. Coupons rule. I'm planning to return my other dv6500t that's supposed to come in this week.
$861 for weaker CPU and less HD. So I was like what the heck, I'll order a new one and send the shipped one back. Why did they put up the coupon so late... Wish they had it up earlier then I'd have my notebook this week. -
Just go to the clean vista install sticky and there is a link to compusa for a anytime vista dvd for less then 6 bucks shipped. You can try calling HP but they will probably just frustrate you by telling you how wrong you are for wanting to do a clean install and why its not possible. The fact is, its not illegal. If you follow the guide, you will use the same key you are using now and will not have to activate it. Or you can just use the key on the bottom of the notebook and call MS and they will activate it. MS could care less. All they are concerned about is that you have a legit key that is bound to your notebook. In this regard, I give HP the lowest mark in support. They ship their systems bloated out to the max.. The Vongo is the worse having no way kill it without going into the registry. HP hardware 5 stars.. pre loaded OS half star.
As far as partitioning, Acronis disc director is the app to use.. I know vista can do this but acronis did it for me painlessly. I merged the recovery partition to the primary without a hitch. Acronis is very good stuff. The acronis true image software will also painlessly image your custom configured HD without a hitch. I already did both. You can also back up folders, email etc. If you want a safe powerful way to partition/image.. then go with acronis. -
Hello guys, I just customized a dv6500t,
T7500 (2.20 GHz, 4 MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB)
2GB DDR2 System Memory
383MB NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS
HP Imprint + Fingerprint Reader + Webcam + Microphone
4965AGN Network Connection and Bluetooth
120GB 5400RPM
SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-R/RW
High Capacity 6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
Vista Premium
it is 1118$ plus tax and ship,
and with the 30% coupon it is $852.59 + $72.47(tax) = $925.06
I have 5 questions...
1) This confg is like the same as Gamja 's except the processor but the price diff is $130 ...???
2) Does it worth to get the T7500(2.2, 4mb) instead of T7250 (2.0, 2mb) for $50 ?
3) Does 6 cell high capacity battery weights and looks same with the normal 6 cell battery? or is it bigger and heavier like 12 cells ?
4) Do you suggest me to order the recovery dvd for $19 from HP? Is it going to work if I want to make a clean install? and I was thinking to burn one by myself after I get the laptop without dvd's...
5) What about the fingerprint reader option? Does it worth to get it for $25 more? I never used sth like that before and I dont know if fingerprint software is going to slow down vista etc...?
I am going to order it as soon as I get the answers. Thank you very very much. -
1) Actually, besides the CPU, I also didn't have webcam, Super-multi, and 4965 WLAN, and high capacity 6 cell battery.
2) I guess it would because one has more cache than the other; it'll be faster. I've only configured T7250 because I ordered 2 of the newly configured notebooks at the same time.
3) No idea...
4) I ordered Windows Anytime Upgrade for $5.45 instead of recovery because I doubt I'll use it...
5) No clue on this either.
Edit: Err...super-multi I did check off. -
Oh, I see. so question 1 is answered
thanks

My dv6500t shipped yesterday from Shainghai. I am stoked. -
-
I have a 4 year old Dell Desktop running XP, so I won't be able burn vista recovery disks there....
And even if one were to burn vista backup from another PC, wouldn't all the HP bloatware migrate along with it? I'm pretty sure I've read that somewhere on the boards... -
I just got my dv6500t delivered to my door! Woot! But I'm returning it because I ordered a cheaper one with better specs. Wow, delivery is fast! Took only 3 days. I'm hoping it'll be the same for my new dv6500t.
Received dv6500t first impressions
