For those that actually care about the HDX, I just picked mine up this morning. Here is the box. For reference, here it is next to my 24" Gateway LCD. I will post more pictures when I get home from work.

Sorry, Imageshack is slow. More Pics:

17" vs 20" vs 15.4" - Toshiba X205-S9359 (Left), HP HDX (Middle), Dell e1505 (Right)
    Slingplayer Quickplay Integration
Great Viewing Angles - I can stand directly to the side and still see the screen
    Top Shot
    Left Side Keyboard/Remote
    Inside Box
    More Packaging
Contents - Remote, Battery, IR Blaster, OTA Antenna
    More Quickplay

    First impressions:

-The LCD is amazing. Easily the nicest on any laptop I've ever owned, and I've owned a lot.

-The sound is excellent. You can actually feel the bass on your desk.

-The left palm rest area gets warm. No surprise here considering how thin the notebook is once opened.

-The touchpad is much improved over the dv6000/ dv9000 series.

-You are able to swivel the webcam up/down slightly. I never realized this from the literature. Nice touch.

-The Slingplayer integration into Quickplay is really slick.

    -It's quiet.

-It's big. But seriously, the screen makes it worth it. :)

What kind of a carrying case are you going to use? (I think you need a 30" suitcase!)

HP seems to have shipped this with a German version of Vista installed. Any way to change this to English somehow or am I going to have to get a different Vista restore disc?

heh if it was in russian then my comment wouldve been spot on! sadly, this is not the case :(

Dunno much about vista, is there a languages option in the control panel? maybe you can change it overall from the BIOS.

I've been on the phone with HP for 45 minutes now. They don't even seem to know that this notebook exists.

if it's Vista Ultimate, then you can download the multi-language interface package, which you can then change the system's languages.

LOL havent u learned anything on this forum? customer service in today's world means the customer has to serve, not the service serving the customer.

Bottom line is they don't even have the HDX in their system so they can't order a recovery dvd for me. I'm supposed to call back tomorrow. They supposedly escalated the issue.

I'll still post pictures later. Looks like benchmarks will have to wait.

    It's Vista Premium BTW.

How annoying! but typical of the wonderful service HP so happily provides! What idiots they must be to have forgotten to add this machine to their database.

Having had to work my way through the labyrinth of HP customer "service," it seems to me that when they promise to "escalate" an issue, they really mean that they've just thought of a bunch of new ways to really tick you off.

Even though I put down monsters like the HDX, there is a part of me (mainly as an HP fan) that would love to have that beast in my room.

I guess your first impressions with it aren't very good :p

I found the Vista disc from my other laptop so I am loading it on here now. I can at least play around with it until HP sends me a restore cd. Hopefully I can get all the drivers reinstalled from the swsetup folder.

    First impressions:

-The LCD is amazing. Easily the nicest on any laptop I've ever owned, and I've owned a lot.

-The sound is excellent. I think the sound on the Toshiba X205 is better (fuller, more bass), but you can't go wrong with either one.

-The left palm rest area gets warm.

-The touchpad is much improved over the dv6000/dv9000 series.

-You are able to swivel the webcam up/down slightly. I never realized this from the literature. Nice touch.

-The Slingplayer integration into Quickplay is really slick.

-It's big. But seriously, the screen makes it worth it. :)

    Flashram,

Try changing the language in the regional settings, in the control panel.

I had a similar problem with an new HP desktop that was set to Spanish when I got it. And HP tech support had no clue as how to help me. I eventually figured it out on my own.

Wow. That certainly is a beast. I've seen the newer style touchpad on some of the TX series portables and really like it. The mouse buttons are improved as well.

As for HP tech support, it certainly leaves a lot to be desired... at least on the consumer side. I've dealt with their business reps on several occasions and have been pleased so far. I find the consumer reps tend to lack even basic technical knowledge and require a bit of education when explaining the problem.

    Hey flashram,

DellFan24 here...you posted on my current "HDX Decisions" thread.

Please post some more pictures. And, now that you actually have the beast in your posession, please either post here or in my current thread your reactions to the computer. I need to make my decision soon, and all of your initial reactions and opinions would truly help.

    Thanks again.

My God, it is a monster. I wish the remote that came with my dv6000z was as snazzy, though I prefer the portability of both it and the dv6000z to the Dragon :p I also like how it tucks away in the ExpressCard slot

But I htink this is moe about the HDX right? :p What do you think of the track pad? It looks very different from one I ever used. Oh, and my mom said she liked your cat ;)

No complaints about the trackpad. Works great. Much better (smoother) than the dv9000/6000 trackpad that I used.

My cat is indifferent to the "Dragon". Go figure. :)

3Dmark06 at default settings and perhaps games like FEAR BF2142 and other similar games (as many games as you have really) would be appreciated so ppl can find out how good the video card is compared to the 8600 and 8700s

btw did that cat come with the laptop? cuz he is in the picture so i assume he is one of those extras :p

I like the default wallpaper of the HDX. Can you share it?
