First off, let me say, i wasn't really sure where to put this, i'm pretty new here, if it should have been placed somewhere else, move it![]()
Okay, Well, Lets get into it...
Around a year ago (mid august 06) i bought an HP DV8339US
DV8339US Specs
1GB ram
1.77 GHz Intel Core Duo
256MB Nvidia G force 7400
200gb hard drive (2x 100gb)
17'' Bright View Monitor
winXP mce
When i purchased this Unit, i of course purchased with it an extended 2-year warranty including the "Express" label (basically, the express label makes it so they have to rush any repairs on your notebook, and costs you around $110 extra on top of the 2 year warranty)
and, now, in early July (around 6 weeks ago) my notebook began to Randomly shut off, at first i thought maybe it was a program i was using, or something, so i basically went though everything i had on it, and ended up reformatting it, and reinstalling windows, the same problem continued, so i decided it was most likely an overheating issue, and called HP, they quickly sent me a box to ship it to them, and i did.
Now, here's where the bothersome part comes in...
HP gave me a shipping date, i called them back roughly a day before i was supposedly receiving it they said that they had shipped it, when i asked for a tracking number they said they for some reason didn't have it, but that i would be receiving it the next day.
Well, come the next day, i wait i was supposed to work that day, but HP specifically said i would need to sign for the box, so i took the day off, come around 7:00PM i come to the conclusion that it isn't coming, and i call hp yet again...
They say, they still have the laptop, and they don't know why i was told it was shipped, and gave me an approximated date of delivery 10 days later (apparently they had a shortage of a part they needed to replace on it, they wouldn't tell me what one)
So, Okay, now that i know, i put in to work that i'll need to have that day off of work as well (knowing i'll need to be home for the package)
(i don't have an important job or anything, just a summer job while i'm away from college)
ok, so again, the night before, i call HP they say it's coming, again can't give me a tracking number, but assure me it's coming... i for some reason believe them...
it... Doesn't come, again... so i call HP, yet again, this time a bit angered that i've lost 2 paychecks with nothing to gain...
they say now, that they still don't have the part, and yet again, don't know why i was told it was shipped...
this time, i demand answers, and ask to speak to their superior so, i speak with him, he assures me that HP will call me back within 24 hours with a DEFINITE shipping date, and they do...
They tell me, i'll be receiving my laptop... 4 days after i'm scheduled to go back to school i tell them that simply won't work, they say that a "case manager" will call me within 24 hours to discuss the problem.
well, he calls me, i tell him i'm supposed to be leaving for school 8 days from that day, he says he needs to give the technicians until that friday (2 days before i'm supposed to be leaving) and tells me to call him thursday...
Okay, so i call him and he basically says that the computer Cannot be repaired (who knows what they did, i'm pretty sure it was only a fan problem)
he says that he will be making me a brand new custom computer, he tries giving me some bull**** computer, i say that there's no way that's the same as what i had (the first thing he said was that he isn't allowed to give me any single component that's worse then one i had), so we talk for around 20 mins to come to the conclusion that i'm getting...
Dv9500t
2.0GHz intel core duo
2GB Ram
383MB NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS
240GB hard drive (120gb x2)
17'' Bright View Monitor
Windows Vista Home Premium
i was happy with this, but it still at this point had already taken a month to get this far, and asked when i'd be receiving it...
he said it would take 2 weeks, (yet again, i'm supposed to be leaving for school in 3 days at this point)
So, here i am, a month and a week after i shipped it out, at school, with no computer, my parents are going to bring it to me once they get it at the house (should be in around a week)
All of this, after i purchased the "Express warranty"
Just figured i'd let everyone know how HP service works, if you don't demand to speak with someone who knows what's going on, you will never get anywhere with them, in the end i guess it doesn't bother me too much, since i got a better computer out of the deal (not sure about how i feel about the vista yet, but he said he simply could not give me xp) however, i will miss my old notebook...
Also, in the near future there will probably be an overflow of refurbished Dv8000's on the market.

My dealings with HP took 3 returns for repair over 2 months but I did get an upgraded replacement. I'm very happy with my replacement system. (dv9000z)
-
Well, at least you are getting a new computer out of the warranty
-
Unfortunately I had a friend with a similar problem with his DV8000. He had to demand to go to the head before the warranty people did anything. They ended up giving im a check in full for everything.
:-\ You win some you loose some. Sorry this happened...it sucks a lot. -
haha, well i'm happy that i'm getting an upgraded replacement, but i wish that it hadn't taken them roughly a month to come to the conclusion that they needed to replace it, classes start in a few days, and i'll most likely be computerless for the first couple days :/

Hey man i know how you feel (kinda), im computer-less at school as well, i ordered my laptop around a week ago, and now im just waiting for it to ship.
ok so maybe not as bad but still, being computer-less sucks (at least my roommate/best friend lets be borrow his) -
Your friend got lucky
