Son dropped his DV5-1000NR laptop and smashed the screen.

    It 'used' to have a 15.4" WXGA+ BrightView (1280 x 800) screen ;)

Does anyone have any recommendations as to where is a good place to purchase a replacement? A quick google search turned up many options but price varied wildly and I wasn't sure of the reputations of the companies.

Also I am assuming that the the Pavilion DV5 range would use the same screens so any DV5 brightview 15.4 would work okay? Or do I need to be very specific on the model number?

Either US or UK shops would be fine as I travel several times a month to the UK.

    Thanks for the advice.

Any dv5 panel should work, and probably quite a few others. Notebooks are getting to be fairly flexible about what panels they'll accept. You might even get away with upgrading to a 1680x1050 res panel though an older HP I tried that trick with turned out to use a different cable for such screens. I don't think HP does that anymore.

LG Philips panels are well regarded.

Do flash in the latest BIOS first if you haven't done so already, just to be safe.

I have no particular favorite vendor.
