I recently purchases a v2000z off of ebay that was stripped. It didn't have a hard drive or battery/ac adapter.

I purchased all new memory, hard drive, battery, and ac adapter but the thing randomly reboots and sometimes doesn't start at all (It powers up, and you can hear the cd accessing, but no video. Sometimes I get two two second beeps). Here is what I purchased:

    Corsair ValueSelect 512MB PC2700 x2
    WD Scorpio 5400RPM 8MB Cache 40GB

I suspected (hoping more than anything) it was a memory issue. I've ran memtest86+ v1.65 numerous times. It consitently fails when both modules are installed. When a single module (I'll call them module 1 and module 2) is installed, module 1 fails consistently in the rear slot, but passes in the top slot. Module 2 passes in both slots.

I've ran the test for 4 hours with each stick and my question is, why would module 1 fail in one slot, but not the other? Is there possibly an underlying problem with the MotherBoard? Should I just send the memory back to NewEgg and get the 1GB PC3200 Crucial sticks?

Any recommendations or opinions on what I should do?

    Regards,
    John

I'd blame the memory. You're not the first person to report failures with Corsair ValueRAM. You shouldn't be getting MemTest86+ errors, period. Crucial PC3200 is the safest/best bet for current Turion notebooks IMHO. I have a pair of their 1GB sticks in my dv8000z.
