Recommended BIOS

I'm using a dv6500t CTO. What BIOS version is recommended? I haven't updated yet but thought I would give it a go since the fan noise seems to be getting out of control now; it's running not stop...literally. I was hoping the f.16 BIOS might help control the fan a little better, but not leave the components scorching hot either.

Also, would anybody be able to give me a direct link since it doesn't appear that HP has the 6500t CTO model listed on their site. Are they compatible across models (e.g., 6000t and 6500t)?

What bios are you running now? Good lord man.... why did you not put that in your question?

 

honestly...i really didn't think it was relevant. you install whatever BIOS works best for the most part. i'm currently running f.05. i had f.16 installed on my previous dv6000t and the fan was never running constantly, and i had a dedicated GPU. the HDD had the same rpm.

 

dv6500t is a dv6500t, just search for that or browse the site and go to the dv6500t and click driver and software downloads. you try the BIOS that suits you or your needs, provided there are updates

 

i understand. but it seems there are BIOS' that are popular and then are some that overheat your computer (f.25 for example...apparantly). i was just curious as to what the popular one was at the moment based on postings here. it looks like i'm on my own.

 

I was running F.16 and upgraded last night to F.25. Immediately my laptop ran hotter. After reading many of the threads about others with the same problem, I downgraded back to F.16 again.

 

well u have a dv6500t, these are very new laptops, so there is probably 1 if any updates available. it wont be the same as the dv6000t cuz it is a different chipset and motherboard. basically, its too new for anyone to have a favorite BIOS.

looking up hp.com there is a f08 bios out now, so check it out

 

yeah, i noticed that. the problem i was having is that HP didn't have any CTO dv6500's listed for support whereas they had dv6000 CTO's. i figured i could just go ahead and select one of the listed models -- dv6500xx -- and would be fine since they all have the same motherboard and chipset, but i hesitated. they all seem to have f.08 as the newest BIOS so i'm gonna go ahead and try that one. we'll see.....

 

well...my CPU better be running even cooler now because this f.08 BIOS has the fans running at turbo speed all the time. looks like the previous version, f.05, is coming back. i guess laptop manufacturers haven't been able to catch up to more powerful procs if this is such a big issue for many owners. eventually this is going to be unacceptable practice.

on the bright side (not really).....the loud fans drown out the high pitch noises lol

 

I'm waiting for my dv6500 to come in any minute now. how serious is this high pitched noise thing. I deadly afraid off opening the box and having to deal with this piercing sound. Does the sound anoy?

Question: If this thing bugs the hell out of me, what is the return policy at HP?

 

I haven't had any issues with high pitch noises, and I hope I won't have to experience it!

The fan kicks in, and is audible, but not to a point it is really that annoying. Sometime the notebook fans are quiet and while running applications, the fans do tend to run faster and slightly louder. But I like mentioned, it's nothing to worry about in my case.

 

So how do I go about flashing my previous BIOS if I can't find it on the HP wesbite? I'm not sure if it's actually responsible for the difference, but now the high pitch noise has become more annoying than ever. Far more annoying than my old dv6000t. And since I didn't have the noise the first few weeks of use and then when it finally started it wasn't nearly as bas as it was now, I have to assume the newer BIOS could be at fault. I previously had the F.05 BIOS and now have the F.08 version.

 

According to hp you can't. And I posted a similar thread about my 9500t with barely no response. Good luck.
