I bought an OCZ Vertex 3 for my DV7-2170US, it's looking like the drive is not compatible and I get blue screens in the initial Windows 7 setup.

The problem seems to stem down to AHCI, but there's no way to turn AHCI off in the BIOS because of the complete lack of features for tweaking.

Does anybody know what SSD is compatible with this HP model?

I'm looking for a recent release 120GB SSD that will work flawlessly with this laptop.

    Thanks

You would not want to turn off AHCI for an SSD anyway as that would severely limit the performance.

It would be a temporary thing, turn it off to get everything installed and then turn it back on again after. That's what everybody seems to be doing.

Seems like the internet is out of juice on this one.
    Really disappointing.

Knowing what I know about SSDs, I would not recommend that. They are meant to be used with AHCI. Sometimes SSD vendors say to turn it off to do firmware updates, yet it works every time with it on. On my DV6 there is no option in the BIOS to turn it off.
