I originally bought this setup and received it Fri.:
    Option 1
HP Pavilion Entertainment dv5t customizable Notebook PC
    • Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1 (64-bit)
    • Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor T9400 (2.53 GHz)
    • 15.4" diagonal WSXGA+ High-Definition HP BrightView Infinity Display (1680 x 1050)
    • FREE Upgrade to 2GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm) from 1GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)
    • 256MB NVIDIA GeForce 9200M GS
    • FREE Upgrade to 250GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
    • [For BrightView Infinity Display] Webcam + Fingerprint Reader
    • HP Color Matching Keyboard
    • Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100AGN and Bluetooth(TM)
    • No Modem
    • LightScribe SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-RW with Double Layer Support
    • No TV Tuner w/remote control
    • High Capacity 6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
    • Microsoft(R) Works 9.0
    • HP Home & Home Office Store in-box envelope
    Total= $1,026.59

Now HP is offering the 12 cell battery. Do you think it would be wise for me to get this setup:
    Option 2
HP Pavilion Entertainment dv5t customizable Notebook PC
    • – Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1 (64-bit)
    • – Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor P8600 (2.4 GHz)
    • – 15.4" diagonal WSXGA+ High-Definition HP BrightView Infinity Display (1680 x 1050)
    • – FREE Upgrade to 2GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)
    • – 50% OFF 256MB NVIDIA GeForce 9200M GS
    • – FREE Upgrade to 250GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
    • – [For BrightView Infinity Display] Webcam + Fingerprint Reader
    • – HP Color Matching Keyboard
    • – Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-card with Bluetooth
    • – Integrated 56K Modem
    • – LightScribe SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-RW with Double Layer Support
    • – No TV Tuner w/remote control
    • – 12 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
    • – Microsoft(R) Works 9.0
    • – HP Home & Home Office Store in-box envelope
    TOTAL= $977.65

The only difference between the two would be dropping from the T9400 (2.53 GHz) to the P8600 (2.4 GHz) (which I don't think will make a huge difference?), upgrading from the High Capacity 6 Cell to the 12 Cell, and adding a 56k modem. I don't know how much shipping will cost but the total price will be cheaper also.

Would you go with Option 1 or 2?

    Thanks

I personally would go to option 2. Curious, are you configuring these yourself or are they already made ones. I assume your just trying to reach coupons so your throw it crap from here and there to get to the needed amount?

Anyway, option 2 P8600 processor uses less power and is already enough to run most things. No noticeable speed increase on the T9400 unless you do some CPU intensive stuff. 56K modem really doesn't interest me at all... the 12 cell will greatly increase battery life but you it will protrude from the laptop, so the back will be raised. This might help as it allows air flow, but it also might look uglier aesthetically.

You are right, I am just adding stuff so I can use a coupon. 56k modem doesn't interest me either, but I was short around $7, and it was the only thing on the site close enough to get me to the $1299. I'm going to go customize some more and see if I can't get anything better than the 56k modem and still stay close to the $1299 mark.

As for the 12 cell, is it still too new that no one has one? I would like to know how far out it protrudes? I just bought a Zeroshock sleeve and would like to know if it will still fit?

    Thanks

It's brand new today, but there are other products that use the 12 cell and you can see it. Even when configuring you can see the 6-cell 12 cell difference. I'm not sure if it will fit. I myself am concerned about this as I have a messenger bag and wondering how the battery will fit.

Alright, so I'm probably going to send my laptop back and get option 2. Is there anything I should do to the one I have, like remove fingerprints or passwords, etc.

    Thanks

I don't think you have to do anything... but just to be safe I have sent 2 back and on each one i system restored before i sent them back.

That was pretty stupid on my part, I didn't even think about system restore.

    Thanks

I ordered it online. Quick question, is the price you listed before or after taxes? I got $977 after taxes. But I didn't get the Infinity display or the modem.

Darth, that price is after taxes.

I talked to HP earlier today and was told I could keep my DV5T, with the high cap 6, and purchase the 12 cell separately. They said the price is $149, but they would give me a $90 credit towards the purchase, so total price would be $59.

I'm still going to return it because I don't need two batteries. The P8600 will be less power consuming than the T9400 and probably won't affect performance and I still come out $50 cheaper. What does everyone think?
