    Hey guys,

I recently bought a neat cable (a 1/4th to 1/8th cable) so I can connect my guitar to my e14 through the mic connector. I am having some trouble though. I can not seem to get my Envy to recognize it. I have tried disabling the built in mics, etc, but have had no luck. Sometimes I get high pitched sounds and static for some reason but hear nothing from the guitar.

Anybody else try doing this? I have never had problems with mic jacks before. Always simple: plug it in, and your set.

Any help would be great :)

Have you set the mic-in as line-in? You have to do that for it to work. I do not know if it can be done one the envy.

I thought I did but I am not sure. I tried a lot of different things. How do you set the mic -in to line-in?

My son is a Music Business major in College with a Stress in Audio Engineering. Nothing beats M-Audio products. He has the M-Audio Pro Fire that he uses with his old Pavillion that has Firewire. Using Adobe Audition and other programs he can do full studio quality recording of numerous instruments as well as vocals, and all that are required for studio quality music. Check out these products for USB. No new computers built in the last year have firewire...but USB 2.0 still works well...

    Check it all out..

You need to amplify the guitar before you plug it into line in.

yeah this is generally the right process... guitar -> 1/4-1/4 cable to amp -> output to internal amp speakers, headphones, line-in in computer, etc.

The mike-in plug is not a standard line-in as it also has headphones output.
I remember some people saying plugging a regular mike on it would not work.

I read somewhere on this forum you will need to find an adapter that will convert your mike 3.5 mm jack into the proper 3.5 mm for headphones with mike.
The envy will then be able to pick up the signal.
