Usually the first disc is the O.S., the second the core drivers, the third applications. Why the recovery manager stopped after the first disc is strange to me...

Anyone else care to help? I'm looking through the programs and features, doesn't look like anything is missing, but i'm not totally sure. Only thing i do notice is HP Total Care Advisor didn't come up as an icon on the desktop. Not really sure what else... No sound when i use quicktouch button for volume? Although this just might be because i haven't updated the software....

what might i be missing without the installation if i only installed the first cd?

No, restoring from the partition with F11 at the boot sequence is just like doing it with the Recovery Discs. The main difference is that it is faster because it is all processed electronically within the same drive.

I am curious why some software was left out though. I swear the first time i had AIM 6 and this time it didn't have it, same with the other things mentioned above.

    simple...

The first reason is to keep space for the recovery partition to a minimum. People will only accept so much of their hard drive space taken away even if they would never use it. It's a psychological thing. They take a few programs out to help alleviate space. Also, most of the programs they leave out are available to redownload either straight from the software manufacturer or from HP in their support section. Second, most software manufacturers consider the notebook manufacturer has held up its end of the deal by makings sure the initial computer will load up their software, so they pay the dividends that they have negotiated with the notebook company. Because, in this case, HP has received their money, unless they are stipulated to, they generally won't include it in the recovery partition because there is no real need to.
