    Hi
My brother got a Pavilion DV6288ea notebook. While he was trying to install XP Pro (since some video editing programs are not working in Vista Home Premium) he cleaned the entire hard disk. He deleted entire hard disk because XP didn’t find it and he thought that Vista was blocking it.
Unfortunately he didn’t make any recovery DVDs or backup. The only backup file he got is a Norton Ghost image file of HP_recovery partition. Is there any help for him? He is unable to install XP. XP still can’t find any hard disk.

Anyone know if you can buy those recovery DVDs from HP (I can’t find any direct link on hp.com)

    Many thanks
    /bala

Ordering the discs from HP is probably your best and only option. AFAIK, its just not enough to have a copy of the recovery partition, your freind should have burnt those discs before formatting the HDD. As for the XP issue, he needs SATA drivers. Look up the sticky posted in the forum about installing XP.

Even if you use Ghost to put the recovery partition back, you will still probably have trouble restoring the notebook because you've changed the MBR (Master Boot Record), etc. Perhaps if he Ghosted the Recovery Partition and the MBR, you'd have a better chance if you could restore both. He may have done it and not realize. Then I suppose you could hit F11 or F12 at boot, to restore the whole notebook from the recovery partition. I hope this helps. It sucks not having your notebook.

I would buy one of these recovery sets, while they are still available.

Obtaining a Recovery CD or DVD set (North America, Latin America, and Asia Pacific)
Obtaining a Recovery CD or DVD set (Europe, Middle East, and Africa)
