The recovery DVDs don't work for MCE 2005. It says that it's not for that machine. Which is crazy, because it made them!

I had an upgraded to Vista, but had never used the MCE DVDs.

The only thing that has changed on the machine is that it had been upgraded to vista an had the BIOS updated to the latest version!

    So, now what?

I'd call HP and talk to support about it.

Most likely the upgraded BIOPS changed something which triggered the DVD's to think that you were trying to install on a different system. Try rolling back to a older version of the BIOS and then try the recovery discs. But I would only suggest doing this if you system is stable under Vista, you woulnt want it to hang while updating the BIOS.
