A couple of days ago I tried to do a recovery off the disc's I made some time after purchase and it failed twice (Both time it failed 34% into the second disc, I should of wrote down the error number but I was seeing red and didn't think of it at the time), I also tried to recover from the partition but that wouldn't work either. Lucky I know someone who has the same model HP and used their disc's to recover without any problems.

    Two part question:

    1) Should I try to re-burn the disc's from this laptop, which I wouldn't know if they're any good unless I do another recovery or should I to burn from the laptop which it's disc's worked?
    2) Is it ok to burn recovery disc's from the other computer being that it's about 5 months old?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers S_P_Q_R

    hey there

    1. You should burn with good media, like Taiyo Yuden or Sony, and then check for errors.
    2. If the other computer is the same model as yours, that would be fine, but I would recommend getting driver updates and OS updates as soon as you do a recovery.

PS: low-end media (cheap DVDs) usually has a short lifespan, when compared to expensive, quality media.

    hope this helps

As mentioned above my recovery disc failed and I recovered from another set of disc's from a similar laptop a friend has.
I just tried to recreate the disc's and I'm getting a 1 set of recovery disc's per computer message, can I upload from the disc's that I recovered from and burn a set from that upload?
In other words, can I make a copy from my friend disc's and burn a pair of recovery disc's from that copy that I uploaded?

let me get this straight, you want to create an image of your friend's disc on your hard drive, then burn the image to a blank disc? Yes, I think there should be no problem

Yes and no. While the image he uses will have his friends CD-Key, it is also easy in Vista to go and change the Key, then reactive windows with the new key once the system is loaded again. What he will need to double check is that the drivers that will be installed by default are the correct ones.
