It appears that my recovery partition is smaller than it should be. When I try to create the recovery disks, it says it will all fit onto one CD, which didn't seem right to me. The HP_RECOVERY drive only has a single file named RECOVERY that is 185KB. So it seems that the recovery partition didn't get created correctly. Is there a way to recreate that partition so I can create the recovery disks?

How about the partition itself, like when you click properties on it? I believe it was originally about 5.5gb with around 500mb free.

The one recovery file is just a shortcut there to hide the contents. If you unhide system and hidden files you should be able to see the rest of the stuff.

1 cd would be far too small though, it should be 2 DVDs or about 6gb.

If the files are still there and you want to try to rebuild those disks, someone found that if you delete hpcd.sys from recovery and I think one in the windows/something folder you can make a second set.

But for you, perhaps its best if you call up HP and have them just send out a new set for you.

My partition shows almost the exact opposite. Only 484mb used and 6.15GB free. Are the recovery disks customized for the individual machines in any way? Could I just make a copy of someone else's recovery disks and be able to recover from those? If not, then I guess it's time to call HP.

I contacted HP and they are sending me the recovery disks.
