My D drive contains the system recovery image. I was also initially using it for the automatic data backup. I later switched to a memory card and deleted the backup on the D drive. Just the data backup not the system backup.

When I run a virus scan using AVG it scans thousands of files in the D:\$RECYCLE.BIN. When I go to the D drive and look at all the system files the recycle bin is empty. What is it scanning and how can I empty the recycle bin on the D drive? It takes about 10 minutes to scan files that should not even be there.
