I recently received a HP G6-1b50us with a broken lcd screen from a coworker the other day. I just got the replacement screen in and as soon as I booted up there were red streaks across the screen. I made sure the ribbon was connected tightly and securely.

This is what it looks like at the home screen:

It doesn't seem to be a GPU issue as I can hook the computer to a monitor and the picture is perfect. Apparently the original way it was broken was that it was knocked off a table as my coworker was getting up. The hard drive also failed likely from the impact as I had to replace that as well.

So, do you guys think that the new LCD screen was defective? Or perhaps it is some sort of damaged connection somewhere that is causing the streaks? I don't have a much experience with this issue so I am reaching out to you guys. Thank you in advance for any help/advice on this.

Either replacement LCD is wrong type (some of them just aren't compatible) or LCD cable has been damaged too.
How's the original, broken display? If you still have it, you could attach it to the cable and see if image is scrambled like that.

LCD should be correct since I bought it because it listed the exact model number of the laptop I was replacing it for.

The original display is completely shattered and shows no picture at all. It looks exactly like the images on google when you search "shattered laptop lcd".

My coworker however now just wants a new laptop. I can still return the lcd screen for a refund so I think that is the course we will take.

Thank you for your help, I really appreciate it.
