I have an HP DV6000t. I plan on reformatting it this weekend, and cleaning all the bugs off. I just wanted to know if anyone has reformatted yet and what they did. Did you do it through those recovery discs?

if you want a clean install (no hp bloatware) follow orev's guide that is stickeyed on the top of the forum
if you want a factory state install, use the recovery discs

I should tell you now that I would like a clean install with XP. I ordered this laptop pre-vista, and they put xp on it, but sent me the vista disc later. I still do not want to update to Vista, not until next year sometime when most programs are compatible.

Is the bloatware like the wildtangent drver?
I know the bloatware is the stuff that comes with the computer but I don't want to lose the DVD player options?

I just want to make sure I do this right, and once I reformat, I want to make sure all the updates are still up to date. How can I do that?

HP sent a reminder saying to make a set of recovery discs (when I was using XP), so I did.
Are these xp recovery discs and can i do a clean install with them?

no you cant do a clean install with them (they will restore it to factory state, with the bloatware)
if you want to do a clean install of xp, you will need an original xp disc

Yeah the orev guide is posted on top, but its a guide for Vista.

So if I install XP off the recovery discs, do I just stick disc 1 in, and restart and than just keep putting in the discs when it asks for them?

And if the bloatware stays on when i do this, is there a way to get it off?

You might be able to do a selective install from recovery disk. Vista recovery has selective install. Installing from recovery disk, you might see a menu prompting you to do complete install or select which bloatwares to install.

Before you reformat the hard disk, insert recovery disk, reboot the laptop and you might see menu options.

Unfortunately the recovery discs will install all the bloatware. The best option would be(if you still have the default XP installation) to use the i386 folder(located in C:\i386) and make a clean XP installation disc. There are instructions on the forum and the web on the exact steps required. This wil give you a clean install. This works with both XP Home and Pro. Not sure with MCE.

You should be able to do a clean install. Install XP up to the point when it asks for the HP drivers disk. Restart at that point and install the drivers one at a time, only what you want/need. There is a guide to this on the asus site that should also work loosly for HP as well. Unless HP had their recovery scripted to do it automaticly, but I doubt it.

No, the Vista Recovery Disc (for HP machines) does not give you any options. You can recover, or do some other maintenance tasks, but there is no menu option to select which software you want to install.
