    What do you like to see in a refresh HP ENVY 15 if they decided to ever do one next year? Please rank 1 - x for most important to least

    For me...

    1) Different Colors / Single Color Design (no floral pattern)

    2) Better heat control

    2) Single SSD option

    3) Fingerprint Reader

    What's your?

    bring have different GPU options. I want an envy, but I don't need a dedicated gpu. so an evny with 9400m and 500$ cheaper would be sweet.

    For the Envy 15:
    1. Edge-to-Edge Screen
    2. X18-M G2
    3. TRIM support for dual HDD's
    4. 1600x900p screen option (1080p is WAY too small & no, I don't want to zoom/DPI everything)
    5. Lower price

    For the Envy 17:
    1. Everything above except 1080p standard and dual 2.5" standard HDD's (preferably the option to add a 1TB HDD with a SSD)

    hp should have at least one potential competitor against alienware (not their lowest products, but all, fully equipped), so the requirements for a fully equipped star model are clear:

    ati mobility radeon 5870 (cf in the 18'' box) (nvidia fermi M if good enough/available)

    intel core i7 920xm or a newer etreme cpu

    velociraptor hd and/or some good intel ssds

    fingerprint reader

    hp duracase/3d driveguard etc., aluminium/magnesium chassis, spillproof - overall build quality best taken 1:1 from the coming elitebook 8#40 models; NOT from the hp consumer line

    16:10 display

    whatever else becomes a must-have for a top-of-the-line notebook

    You can get an optical drive with it already. It's an external drive.

    Velociraptor is not happening as it is too thick and requires a 12V power supply (as opposed to the 5V that notebook hard drives use). Neither is going back to 16:10. Also, driveguard isn't necessary and can be a hindrance if not configured properly for SSDs.

    Just an aside for anyone with HP 3D Drive Guard... It's easily disabled in the Windows Mobility Center (Windows Key + X), very useful for playing music, downloading, etc. with the lid closed.

    My biggest gripe is the lack of an inbuilt optical drive in the current model. I know alot of people don't care about this, but for me, its quite important. Making me think long and hard about picking up this one. Just my 2 cents!

    * mPCIe slot with sata pins so can set up a SSD+HDD system using a netbook type mPCie SSD (eg: Runcore ProIV (Indilinx) 64GB SSD)
    * with mPCIe SSD in place, use an optical bay so can either choose to have a 2.5" HDD or a optical drive.
    * expresscard 2.0 (PM55 chipset) so can DIY ViDock. Better yet, create a docking station that can take an external desktop video card and pipe the input back to the notebook LCD. This then giving a lot of scope for a IGP or low consumption dedicated gpu.
    * if keeping with a performance GPU ensure it's *switchable graphics*.
    * matte LCD
    * get rid of any bios whitelisting of mPCIe wifi/WWAN. Burnt users tread carefully now.
    * add a trackstyk
    * use selective carbon fibre components to bring weight down
    * use highest capacity batteries on the market (eg: 2900ma+)
    * avoid glossy finishes associated with cheap and cheerful units.
    * make it affordable

    Ie: make it truly worthy of it's envious title.
