Hey, my laptop's been experiencing some issues, and I've sent it in to HP 3 times for repairs, yet the problem still persists. After talking to my Case Manager, he's offered to replace the laptop with a new one, but I was wondering if it was possible instead to ask for a full refund? Anyone ever tried doing that?

    Thanks.

EDIT: Laptop was bought from Costco, would that cause a problem?

I believe Costco has a nice refund policy. HP didn't sell you the notebook, so if anything it would be prorated.

    Hey iph03n1xi,
Did your case manager offer you upgrades for all your troubles? (For the replacement notebook they are offering) I'm sending my laptop in for the 3rd straight time and they haven't even come close to solving the problem. It's annoying as hell and it's been a big liability for me not having the notebook.

I don't know about upgrades yet, as we haven't really talked about the specs yet. I was told that they would replace my laptop, but that was on Friday, so I wont know the specs until Monday.

The current model I have is no longer in production though, so I'm getting a newer model, I know that.

HP replaced my laptop with a new one, and the replacement was a upgrade from what I had. In my case getting the money back for my laptop would have put me at a loss.

Well, I'm kind of interested in a 15.4" instead of the 17" I currently have. The main reason I did go with a 17" was because it had a better graphic card, but now that the dv5t has the 9600M GT like the dv7t, I rather get a 15.4".

    O well ><"

They'll allow you to downgrade as long as you have acknowledgment of the loss. Theoretically then you could request more upgrades because the 15.4 is cheaper than the 17.

Yea, I was hoping I could ask my Case Manager to downgrade, but he had told me that the screen size was the only thing that was really set in stone, so it kind of deterred me from asking.

Has anyone tried a downgrade in screen size?

And I guess I'll try to ask him tomorrow then.

They'll allow it. They just don't let you upgrade the screen.

So asking for a refund probably wont work, but asking for a downgrade in screen size (and possibly better upgrades) could work out?

You would lose on a refund and they are always in opposition. They want you to continue being an HP customer. Everything is at the discretion of the case managers.

    I plan to get a dv5t if I got a refund, lol.

Maybe I could ask for a decked out dv5t then I guess...

Well they would be more inclined to get you a speced out DV5T. The refund would be prorated. They would calculate the time of ownership of your original laptop and the components with "used" marketing prices. I've seen someone get a $600 quote for a computer that would normally sell for about $1900. $600 would get you a base DV5Z notebook, which you would not want.

Well, I guess I'll talk with my Case Manager about it. I'm actually pretty happy with my Case Manager. He seems to at least care about my issue and actually gives me calls, which is in contrast to the horror stories I've heard.
