I saw some online stores (like eCost) selling this series notebook (with briteview feature) for an attempting price. I wonder if any of you have bad/good experience(s) with the "refurbished" notebook. Please share your thought.

Most refurbished notebooks come with short warranties. That would make me hesitant to buy. If something goes wrong, they are expensive to fix. If you tell us your budget and what you plan to plan to do with it, we could better assist you.

Thank you for the reply.
I saw a DV1024Cl with 1.7Ghz and double layer burner at Sam's for $1299 (from $1199.63 plus 8.25% tax). I compared it with the one I found from Tigerdirect with the same processor speed, except the double layer feature (there's no mentioning on the web), for about $1045 including shipping (no tax to me) plus a small Canon inkjet printer. As you see, the price difference is about $254.
Please suggest. -
I purchased my laptop from Ecost and it was refurbished. The warranty is only 90 days, but I can purchase any of the HP extended warranties, including the accidental damage coverage, as long as I purchase it before my 90 days are up. I can purchase them directly from HP, or there are a few places (techexcess.net is one) that sell the HP warranty packages for a small discount over HP's prices. These are HP warranties, not 3rd party warranties. Once I've purchased the extra warranty, I figure I'm equal to a new purchase, except that I didn't have to wait 2-3 months for my rebate checks to trickle in. For example, my configuration cost a little over $900 with everything, and I priced it out new with all the current rebates at that time, and the refurb was still cheaper than the new one after rebate, so I was happy.
I've purchased many refurbished items including a Nikon digital camera, Sony stereo equipment, and this laptop, and I've always been pleased. None of my equipment looked like it had been used before. Of course, I could just be lucky, but I feel perfectly comfortable spending my money on refurbished items.
Also, in terms of reliability, most electronic components that fail will fail pretty early in their life, or else run fine. Of course, mechanical items (HDs and such) follow a little different reliability curve, but there's still some truth to that in their case as well.
All in all, I recommend refurbished as a great way to save some money.

How about this:

The burner is not dual layer, but it comes with one year warranty. You can save some money on a refurbed machine, but if it does not work out as I said it can expensive to fix. I know there was a couple of people here with refurbed eMachines from TigerDirect who had problems. You can opt for the extended warranty, but that will probably make it close in price to the new one. Good Luck.

I agree that the price will be close to the same. I'm just the impatient type when it comes to rebates. [] I bought a monitor at Thanksgiving at Fry's with huge rebates, and the check just came in about 2-3 weeks ago. They were within their "8-12 weeks" period, but that's still ridiculous in my book. I'd rather keep my money up front. YMMV.
FWIW, I had originally ordered a new one from OD with the big rebates. However, they screwed it up and it was delayed about 2 weeks, making the total delivery time about 4 weeks, so I bailed on the order and bought my refurb instead, with better features and overnight shipping. My motto? If I wanted it today, I'd ask for it tomorrow! []
