Anyway what i wanted to ask is has any one had a bad experience buying a refurbished envy? Also would like to hear good experiences too=)

    thanks in advance=)

my wife bought an envy 15 refurb from a company called Colorado Computer through ebay and the owner, Timur was helpful and offered a 7-day return policy. It was in perfect condition, so she was very happy with her purchase and she has been using it for a couple months now with absolutely no problems.

You might try asking him and negotiating over the phone. He dropped the price a bit for us and perhaps he can tell you when he will get new stock in from HP.

My envy 15 is a refurb direct from HP. It arrived absolutely as new.

I've seen a few posts from people who went through Colorado Computer and were happy. If you are going with someone else on eBay, I'd ask about them here first to see if anyone's bought from them.

Did you buy it from the HP outlet center web page?

    I got it from here:
    Refurbished business products

I checked daily for a week or so as stock is updated daily and occasionally a config priced way below the others would show up. Mine was an i5, 540M, 1080i brightview with dual-ssd's for $1159.

"Do not buy any refurbished Envy's, as there is a small but significant percentage of people who have experienced severe hardware problems (myself included) and you really want to have that HP warranty."

I found this in another post, movie may i ask what hardware problems they are? and the seller is "eritechinternational" he said the warranty is 90days and if anything goes wrong I would need to send it back to him and they would claim to HP as it's not valid in Australia.

There is no doubt there are refurb buyers who get bad machines, just as there is no doubt new buyers get bad machines. This is why a warranty is a very good idea. However, I don't see where that translates into avoiding refurb's as a refurb buyer has the same extended warranty options as a new buyer. You can go through HP directly, or go through places like Costco and get full coverage (including accidental damage) for anywhere from 1 to 4 years.

Not sure what being in Australia has to do with voiding an HP warranty. Rather than depend on a forum post to find out if HP would cover your location, I'd call them and ask.

Oh no I went on the AUS website and in the FAQ section it does cover items bought over seas, the person who told me it isn't valid is the seller I am thinking of buying the envy from "eritechinternational".

oO nice, may i ask what specs you got? Also are you getting some sort of extended warranty or are you just going to stick with the 90 days?

Same here, I am getting a refurb Envy 15 from Eritech on Wednesday.

I will be buying a 2 year HP warranty I believe. You have 90 days to purchase it. I have an existing safeware insurance policy I will be putting on the Envy.

I am getting an i7-720 with 4 gigs of RAM, 320 gig HDD, and antiglare FHD display for $1095 US with free shipping and no tax. It is hard to find good deals on the antiglare display. Eritech was very nice on the phone and has good ebay feedback (though this is not always a sure thing).

I _just_ bought a refurb dell precision m4500 and had to return it since it was defective, it would hard lock in windows in only 5-10 minutes no matter what I tried.

So be aware that if you buy an HP refurb from Eritech they DO NOT take returns and you will have to have it serviced by HP.

My Envy 15t-1100 is a refurb from Colorado Computer and it arrived in good condition. My only complaints about it is that one rubber isolator (on the SSD cage) wasn't present and the 160GB SSDs were G1 units. I got an excellent price on the unit (roughly $2100 US) back in May for the Envy 15 G2, i7-720QM, 16GB of 1333 DDR3 RAM, 2x 160GB SSDs and the antiglare LCD. No frills with it (bag, memory stick or original box), but the price was close to the same as what Best Buy here in Canada was charging for an old G1 model with 6GB of RAM, a mechanical HD, and the ultra crappy bilingual keyboard.

Hey matto, I received mine yesterday and it's awesome ! It only had a minor black scratch on a side and the screen sides were a bit scratched too but only noticeable under a lamp and it depends on the angle. Nothing that really bothers me.
    The specs were:
    core i5 520m
    radeon 5830
    brightview full hd display
    320gb hdd
    4gb ram

It came in a brown box instead of the original sleek packaging but everything was fine. The only complain I have is that the palm rest area gets really really hot, especially the right side, mostly because of the hdd.

*EDIT: the screen sides aren't really scratched, it's just those very small scratches that appear when you clean something that has dust on it.

oO nice, okay well eritech told me that the i7 has no wear and tear what so ever, so I'm guessing that if there is I can return it. Also did you purchase the extended warranty through them? I'm thinking of it.

I didn't purchase it because I live in spain and I don't think I'm even gonna use the 90 day warranty due to shipping costs.

oh okay, I'll most likely be getting the same one as you. I don't need the i7 and + it would give me a lot less battery life.
