    Refurbished- Code in the serial or product number?

    Is there a way to determine if a given boxed unit is refurbished rather than factory new, say through some coding?

    call up HP and give them your serial codes. If they dont recognise it then its refurbished

    Yes, with the HP identification sticker on the bottom.

    For example, EZ552UA is a specific model subset for a new v5000. EZ552UAR denotes a refurbished v5000 (with emphasis on the " R" at the end of the model designation.......

    All refurbished HP's have 3-Month warranty sticker at the back of the laptop.
