    Hey guys,

I did a clean install on my Envy 14, and when I type in the product key from the microsoft label under the battery, it tells me the key is invalid for activation. What should I do?

    Thanks!

you have you activate your key by phone.... if you are using the COA key (they key found under the battery, on the COA sticker)

Did you backup your SLP key and your OEM certificate from HP stock Windows 7 install? Keep in mind, SLP keys are NOT the same thing as COA keys.

I did a clean install of my envy 14 a few weeks ago and activating windows worked fine, no problems whatsoever, but now I'm having the same problem too.

It detects that my copy of windows 7 is not genuine. I'm running some sort of windows validation program right now to see if it fixes it. Anyone know a solution? Suppose I could just call microsoft.

EDIT: I tried entering in the product key and got an error saying the computer BIOS is missing a required license.

you guys really should have followed the HP Out of the box 2.0 guide.

for OEM windows 7 keys you have to back them up with this program. Otherwise well..it's not gonna work.

you might be able to do a install with recovery discs and that might work.

    otherwise, it's phone call time.

edit it's step 2 from the guide

yes it sucks but Microsoft doesn't give you a key you can just activate again through the internet. Gotta call 'em.

You have to give Microsoft a call. The COA key under the battery is meant for a backup solution in case you somehow lose the SLP key and the OEM certificate, like in a HDD failure situation.
