I'm looking at the HP dv8000t Reinstallation Guide for reference and in Step 3 it suggests an important step is to disable Native SATA Support if i don't have a slipstreamed XP disk. I'm in the BIOS of my dv2000z and at the System Configuration screen I only have:

    Language
    Button Sound [Enabled]
Boot Options (just order, nothing about SATA)

Is this SATA thing isolated to the Intel models or will I run into problems on my AMD turion machine if I don't disable this SATA support somewhere.

The V2000z does not have a SATA hard drive. So, there wont be any options to in the BIOS and no need to slipstream anything. Just boot with the Win XP disc and the installation should proceed normally.

Yea, thanks for the response. That's what I was thinking. I was looking at the line items on my techdepot (office depot) invoice and it says:

80 GB 5400 RPM Serial ATA Hard Drive $75

I guess the "SATA" is a selling point for this model but not really a feature.

Oops, Sorry. Misread the model as V2000z instead of the dv2000z. So, yes it has a SATA drive, but there is not need to slipstream or disable SATA in the BIOS as Windows recognises the SATA hard drive.

thanks for the info. all that talk of disabling SATA and slipstreaming had me worried. anyhow, i easily deleted the C:\ partition and reformatted to XP Pro. burned the SWSETUP (and recovery disks just in case) and i think i'm good to go, just need to install the drivers one by one.
