I'm looking to purchase the HP Compac nw9440 mobile workstation with the intension of:

    - removing Windows XP (after creating recovery disks from the recovery partition and making a Ghost image)
    - installing Linux
    - installing VMWare workstation or player
    - reinstalling Windows XP as a Guest OS on top of VMWare player/workstation

    1) Can anyone tell me how the nw9440 arrives configured to handle recovery from XP? Does it use the recovery partition mechanism used by other HP machines? Can someone verify that?

    2) Would I be able to reinstall Windows XP as a Guest VMWare OS through the recovery CD's that would be created or by obtaining the recovery disks from HP?

    3) Do the laptops come with a Windows XP sticker with unique product key attached to the machine that I could use to reinstall XP in this way through slipstreaming?

Any shared personal experience or knowledge would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

Don't have but about a minute.

2: Don't know for sure, but on a dv8000t ordered thru www.COSTCO.com back in April there was an $10 option for a OS re-install disc that contained the OS, serial number already embedded.

Item #3 ... Yes they have a COA on the bottom of the laptop..... It's an OEM key I believe....
