    Hi,

I have a dv6tqe Laptop. How do I go about reinstalling my windows WITHOUT resorting to a factory reset? I have repartitioned my hard drive and as such don't have a place to backup my data for the reset.

Also, does the OEM install really make a significant difference? Forget the software support, I really don't want the HP bloatware.

    Thank you!

Just do a Minimized System Image recovery.

Ah yes. But won't the recovery wipe out all my saved data?

Data files like word documents, mp3 files, videos, etc. won't most of those files will be moved to a folder called windows.old. The ones that won't work or stay will be the programs and you'll have to reinstall the programs and any settings that was done.

Use Windows backup and as long as all your files and folders are in "normal" locations, mainly in the User's Folder they will be backed up. Or just back up your entire system so you can pick and choose files later from the backup.
