I'm pretty much sold on the new Pavilion line and would love to order one when they come out, however I live in Canada. Does anyone know of a reliable and cheap mail forwarder?

Well, although I dont know any mail forwarders, if you didnt know this info already, HP US website only accepts US issued credit/debit cards. I dont know if paypal works but if you use CC/DC's then you must provde a card with a U.S billing address.

It also works with international cards or calling up your CC/HP and associating it temporarily with a US address. it's more a residency issue than anything, but thanks for the tip.

Interesting, I'd assumed that most US stores can ship to Canada too. I just read from another thread about international mail forwarders, but it was regarding shipping to Asia. AFAIK there could be customs fees and import taxes that you might have to contend with...

I know Lenovo takes Canadian American Express cards, but I can't remember whether HP does (maybe worth a shot). Anyway if you live near the border, there are plenty of smaller mail-pickup locations which offer their US address for a small fee (under $10 typically), then you go pick it up and bring it back across the line.

If, however, you live far away from the border that doesn't really work :( And yeah, you'll pay duty (I paid uh...$200 on $1500 CAD) but no taxes/etc. Conversely if it's shipped to you across the line you'll pay brokerage fees (basically paying someone else to take care of the duty...so duty + some extra).

Finally, the warranty may not be transferable from USA to Canada. I was lucky in that my 8510p came with an international warranty and thus there were no problems, but I don't know about the consumer line coverage.

I wish, but sadly no. HP itself has a pretty cumbersome distribution network where its national divisions outside of the US have quite a lot of autonomy that affect their own prices and narrows the variety of products. HP Canada appears to be a dumping ground for obsolete US lines and slower pre-configs all the while commanding a premium for its junk.

Thanks for the info everyone else, unfortunately I don't live near the border and that mail forwarder is insane expensive. I guess I'll have to think about this.
